DEATHLOK
I was wondering if anyone found Primed Shred a worthy alternative to Vile Acceleration? Or if anyone has a better idea than Vile Acceleration? Thank you! Edited February 10, 2018 by DEATHLOK
0 Bobtm
Like is the case with many things, "better" will be a bit subjective depending on what you value more overall for using the Opticor. In terms of general mobbing the bonus punch through that Primed Shred offers doesn't do enough to offset the speed difference that Vile Acceleration provides on this weapon. This is for two reasons; The Opticor has innate Punch Through on it (and an AoE). The Opticor's damage per shot is often "more than enough" for enemy units you encounter. So even though Vile Acceleration reduces your per shot damage marginally, the actual real-game impact of that damage reduction is effectively nil. Now mind you, using Primed Shred instead won't make the Opticor bad by any stretch of the imagination. But it will objectively lessen the weapon's overall usability when dealing with normal mission scenarios. This includes both killing normal enemies and killing boss enemies. Because Vile Acceleration's total impact upon the Opticor's DPS is such that it will both kill normal crowds faster and take out anything you don't one-shot faster too, considering your subsequent shots come on earlier. With this in mind the times when you'd want to use Primed Shred instead (or another fire rate mod that isn't Vile Acceleration) would be more down to one's own preferences. It could just be as simple as wanting to maximize potential damage from each shot for funsies. Having a bit more Punch Through for goofy shenanigans, and such. In terms of optimal return for the mod slot invested, you just can't beat Vile Acceleration, save for a riven mod.
