It has respectable damage already which is innately Viral, and has high enough status chance to proc pretty much all the time. It doesn't need any more raw damage when every burst is proccing Viral and your modded elemental combo, on top of not requiring ammo pickups and granting lifesteal on headshots. It's amazing. Whether or not it could ever be "5,000 Mutagen Samples for a Ghost Clan" amazing, without breaking the game, is a debate for another day. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

With the core build it's a tossup between permanently reducing the target's current armor value by 25%, which makes them take more damage, or halving their current and max health for 6 seconds, which reduces the amount of damage necessary to kill them. You can add in Heat damage if you want a DoT to match Slash-focused status weapons, and with how quickly Corrosive procs will destroy your target's armor, plus the health halving and bonus damage of Viral, I'd be surprised if it took a whole mag of hits to kill any regular enemy not named Nox.
