Ignis, Is It Worth It?

Question

Recently my clan and I built the laboratories and researched Ignis. I need a weapon for close range to cope with my Mag loadout or Frost, so I assumed that Ignis would be a good choice.

However my clan mates say it is a terrible weapon and that it kills me even when I fire it standing still. Futhermore, Ignis deals no Area of Effect Damage and seems to be a terrible modified Gracatta in which the "Fast Trigger" mod does not work.

However I think that having it would be nice against all the infested defenses.

So by now I am quite confused. Is Ignis worth the effort? Is it worth the 5000 ferrite and the other resources they ask for it? If yes, how should I mod it?

Sadly, no. Even the Dera and Torid outclasses it almost completely, and all that I have mentioned only needs Mastery level 4.

But not all is lost. Ignis is bound to get a buff very soon. In foresight, you can go and obtain it.

Yes, it's worth the effort. It's currently useless but it's going to be reworked soon. Very soon.

Wermmm ... "it's currently useless" is not really a great argument to defend a weapon.

When will it be re-worked? Who is the source? Can we confirm it? How is the rework going to affect the weapon? Will it be good against light infested and ancients as well?

The ignis is currently not good at all. For a flamethrower, it does everything a flamethrower doesn't. That is, hits a single target directly infront, and as you said no AoE.
Not sure, but I think the Devs also realise this too.
It is EXTREAMLY likely to be re-worked pretty soon.

You could make it, or save the ferrite, and build other things you may want in the meantime.

You're forgetting Grimgrip and I are part of the Design council (as due to our founder level), So we know a few things you don't, but we can't say exactly what. So I would trust Grimgrip on this one. Can't be confirmed indeffinitely, and an estimated time can't either

To make it short, No. Not even close. At Mastery 9, I consider it easily the worst primary weapon in the game, if not the worst weapon period.

You're basically looking at a melee weapon that eats ammo due to its stupidly short range (less than ten meters) that occupies your primary slot and while it's passable against trash infested, that's about as good as it gets; it's far less effective against Ancients (its range is so short you basically need to be close enough to get smacked by them, which for obvious reasons is a problem, particularly against Disruptors).

While one would hope that it gets reworked into something that isn't horribad, I'd suggest saving your resources to build pretty much anything else.

Cut the dramatics. We didn't sign non-disclosure agreements. We are not required to withhold information, and I dare you to find an official source requiring us to do so. Statements like this only serve to make players think Design Council has more power than we actually do, and it quite frankly irritates me when DC members do this because it makes us all look extremely elitist.

Information makes people happy, so give it when you can. You lose nothing by doing so.

There is a poll vote thread in the Design Council subforum currently, one asking which weapon deserves another balance check. Currently, the top three are as follows:

330 Votes: Ignis

228 Votes: Grakata

160 Votes: Braton Series (Prime, Vandal, Original, MK1)

I have used the Ignis a lot with mag using the pull to fix its range problem grate fun

i have changed to the flux as works the same and i need the range as i have changed to Nova

but the biggest thing to know about both is from the wiki this makes both guns dps so high but your ammo go very quick

There is currently no fire rate cap on the weapon when fired in semi-auto form, so an autofire macro would allow players to effectively instantly dump the entire contents of their magazine into a single enemy. This is most assuredly a bug.

Was about to say the same thing. None of us signed a thing, hell, I don't even think we've even ever been asked to keep anything hush-hush super-secret.

Some people'll do anything to make themselves feel special it seems.

If you want my suggestion for clan weapons to go for:

Ogris: Boom boom. Think Paris, only it explodes on every shot.

Dera: Think Braton, but with slight travel time and 2 extra points of damage per shot. Outclassed by Braton Prime in the AR category.

Acrid: Everything dies. Melts level 120 enemies dead in seconds.
