Was Anyone Else Disappointed With Me2?

I went into ME2 expecting the same level of character customization and options that I got in ME1.

After completing it, and learning that only a few builds are viable, I will never touch ME2 again unless I run out of games that involve shooting things.

Also, ME2 has killed my desire to spend any money on ME3 or any dlc that might come out of the ME universe.

The story of the game, cover system, available weapons and armor, squad command and abilities in general were much better in ME1 imo.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I love ME2. I love the whole series. In fact, after the 80 hours of the series spent on 2+3 (about 40 hours for each of the 3 games) it was weird going back to ME1 because of how different it was. The armor and weapon systems, while having a basic progression, were not unique and became repetitive and boring quickly.

In general ME1 was the best. difficulty was quite hard but you could atleast properly build your weapons and armor to your own tastes. in Me 2 it got easier (isnt that always with sequels? ) but the story was well decent. i dont like the cerberus parts but okay aside from that the story was interesting. ME3. even worse than ME2  Story just plain sucked.  giving us unfinished endings. (you have to download a dlc for that -.-  then again its EA. Delivering Unfinished games since EA ever started. )

Seriously though guys, thermal clips?

It's like the whole galaxy just moved a step backwards in cooling technology.

And very few of you who liked ME2 the most don't miss the days when cryo rounds were part of your weapon loadout customization, along with radar, and not an ability?

Granted, I'll agree that being hit with a spam of weapons that don't actually improve was bad, but I really enjoyed tweaking my loadout to suit my playstyle, not having to rely on a linear upgrade from a terminal or vendor.

That's true. Ammo customization was great. The ideal system would have been the ME2 weapons/armors but with ME1's upgrade system.

I liked ME1 and 2 equally.

ME1 had the best "feel", I really felt like I was exploring the Galaxy and facing down incomprehensible foes. It also had a "hard sci-fi" vibe, all the women wore apropriate armor into combat, the guns looked and felt advanced and the fake physics where the most concistent.

ME2 had the best writing, since it focused on what Bioware does best: character studies. The actual plot of all 3 is fairly weak and cliche, but the characters make it work.

ME3 was where it fell apart, and even without my nerd rage over the ending it had massive pacing problems and plot holes. It does have the best combat though.

If I had been in charge, I wouldn't have forced the Reaper trilogy. I'd much rather it be a full franchise and embrace the pulp sci-fi Flash Gordon style hero thing. Each game would have a different enemy that would be totally defeated at the end.

Game one: Exactly as ME1. The Soverign is defeated and the Reapers are trapped in the Void for another 10,000 years!

Game two: Sheperd's a hero so the Collectors bump her/him off! S/he is ressurected by Cerberus to take them on, since the Citadel governments are too busy dealing with the after-affects of the Geth/Reaper invasion (that was not covered up). Sheppard punches the Collector leader in the $&*^ and the Humans are saved.

Game three and more: Now a target for every baddy in the Universe, Sheppard takes off with her/his rag-tag crew to battle injustice and tyranny wherever it appears as the greatest Spectre of all time!

Choices would still carry over and so on, but I admit it would be had work keeping that going for 5 or more games.

Totally worth it though :P

Mass Effect 2 was my favorite aswell, great story and ending was motivating, surving suicuide mission along with other crew members.

first was fun storywise but the combat mechanics and inventory managment were horrible, i always ended up having  best gear for all my teammates and myself and always scrapping drops into omnigel.

Third was disapointing in story, the plotholes, the logical gaps (entire Quarian fleet needed multiple strikes to take down one non-capital sized reaper meanwhile on earth it took single rocket) and buttload of overdramatisation.

And obviously the whole ending fiasco, destruction was my main choice after extended cut i tried refusal only to get middlefinger from bioware.

I doubt I would have been as upset if the ending wasn't just Deus Ex's again. It was insulting.

Ending one - Destroy: Destroy all technology! That will make things better right? (It won't)

Ending two - Convert: Yes, join the group you've been fighting this whole time!

Ending three - Union: Combine organic and A.I. into a utopian civilization.

They worked in Deus Ex because the whole point of the game was about becoming more than human, the ethics of technology and questioning loyalties. In Mass Effect they come out of nowhere.
