Let's fix LUNARO (2.0?)

Many of you might not know but there is this special game mode in the game called Lunaro. It's a mishmash of Lacrosse and soccer. But it's just not very fun. Let's dissect it a bit and the game that inspired it: Rocket League.

What makes Rocket League "fun"?

It doesn't play like soccer at all. So it's not about bringing the ball to the goal. RL is fun because of the speed you move, the acrobatics and the often unpredictability of the positions of the ball and the players that often lead to happy accidents or coincidences. Skilled players might have a better grasp of the whole battle and the movement but even novices can have fun because the ball is easy to spot and "interact" with. You might be bad at aiming the ball but you can at least touch and affect it. Now compare all of these to Lunaro.

  • You move slower than in the regular game so sprinting and jump just feel more sluggish than what you're used to.
  • The ball is hard to catch. Spending most of the match trying to catch it while it bounces back and forth from one end to the other is not fun. Chasing a ball being thrown all over while never catching it is not fun.
  • The ball is too slow when thrown. You're supposed to carry it... or something. But you move too slow. And throwing is just a crapshoot because at most distances you won't reach the goal anyway and you just hope your teammates could catch it? There is no passing in Rocket League, meaning team coordination is irrelevant to the fun.

So, since no one is playing this game mode, I propose the following changes be made just to try to make Lunaro more fun:

  1. Give everyone 1.2 sprint speed.
  2. Give more mass (?) to the ball so when hit it will fly faster and farther.
  3. You have to actively catch a ball, like using the Block button. Otherwise you just hit your ball with your body or your attack.
  4. After catching a ball, if you throw it at the direction of your teammate, it will auto aim to that teammate, who will glow to indicate the ball is coming to him. If he got decked, the auto aim get turned off.
  5. The ball hitting the side walls or towers in the field actually gives it more momentum instead of blunting it.
  6. Make the attack swing very fast but only for the first swing! Meaning if you spam the attack button, you are actually swinging wildly and slowly and locking yourself on that spot. The fast attack swing will make it easier to time "punching" the ball or another player as long as they're not spamming.
  7. Make the ball a bit bigger, and thus easier to catch/hit. I guess the goal needs to be bigger too.
  8. Bring back coptering(!!) just for the Lunaro weapon. This makes traversing the field faster but less controllable than bullet jumping.
  9. Spawn random booster orbs in the field. Like short buffs to sprint or jump speed or throw strength, immunity against decking, etc. Buffs don't stack. You can only have one buff at one time and picking another one overrides your existing one.

My vision of Lunaro 2.0 is players zipping all over the place and the ball is bouncing even faster and more wildly. Instead of a soccer or lacrosse field, Lunaro should play like you're inside a pinball machine.

Anyways, in short, do some drastic changes to make this mode more fun. I can see the potential for this mode but currently it's just not fun at all. With practically no player base playing this, drastic changes shouldn't be a problem, right?

Tbh, we should just remove it.

All Lunaro is is a cheap knockoff of Rocket League. That's it. It was created at the time Rocket League was getting very popular, and DE tried to ride that train and failed.

It only hasnt been removed because it doesnt bug out between updates.

Or it could have already, 0 players on it at any given time after all.

DEs feature creep philosophy is to amputate any necrotic limbs and hope they can grow more before theyre out...
