Phobos: Why The Settlement Is My New Favorite Map

DE, thank you. The new Grineer map set is amazing. How so?

-Beautiful, game advancing environment. Nature that I can believe would really exist. Perfect melding of nature and

 machine.

-Large, open areas.

-This has two possibly unintended benefits. Helps fight rushing because of the many paths and number of areas

you can be attacked from. Also encourages sniping, because we finally have enough range to make it logical.

-Environmental Hazards

-Desert Skates. Scared the crap out of me the first times they popped out of the dirt, scared me again when they

started firing their barbs at me. But was really amused when I saw the Grineer fighting them as well.

-Chasms of DEATH!!! Though they seem to have some graphical errors.

-Sandstorms? The areas at the edges of the big open sections that blow you back inward. Not sure if this is the

intended sandstorm hazard of if I have yet to see it.

-Enemies!

-I'm proud of you DE. You listened to the community feedback and greatly improved the Informer drones by turning

them into Regulators. Now they actually serve a purpose in combat, instead of floating around being a radar

        jammer.

-Hellions: Man I was not expecting these guys, but they are awesome. Jet packs, rocket salvos, jet packs explode

after death. Again, you listened to the community. Instead of creating just another bullet sponge, you finally gave

us an enemy that is harder because it actually uses unique mechanics and tactics. Bravo DE, bravo.

-Also the desert look on all the enemies is fantastic. Great job art department!

-Perfect level to allow casual players to enjoy it.

-You gave us all the most useful resources!!!

And this is all from playing the first mission! Now if you don't mind, I'm gonna try to knock out my homework so that I can play it some more.

EDIT: So I haven't reached the bosses yet (of course) but I'm hearing it's Vor and Kril. Which is fine. However, it makes me curious if the Grineer use the same/similar ranking system as US officers. If so, then no matter which system (Army or Navy) Vor out ranks Kril. Pretty significantly if you go by Naval ranks. (Lt is O-3 while Cpt is O-6)

Also, what is this floating over Phobos??? http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=169081306

Another cool feature. Glad Warframe has trained me to look up. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=169117612

Play more, and it'll get to you.

1. It doesn't fight rushing. In fact, on one boss run one guy got through and near killed vor before the rest of us got there. It's easy to get lost here. Rushers don't care about fighting off enemies, only about getting to the objective.

2. Chasms of death? Nope, you just start right back where you were before. Also, the sandstorm isn't a hazard, it's there to keep you from going out of the map.

3. Hellion is just a more mobile sponge that tends to blow itself up if it's in mobile corridors. So much for difficulty.

I love how Hellions will use their jetpacks to dry and dodge your bullets.

I was actually amazed that he dodged my flux rifle beam, I was like "wtf?"

Well, he dodged it for like....2 seconds.

Still!

More than what most mobs do.

I still don't see what those Desert Pancakes are doing, they barely scratched 25 Shields of me per second. They don't stunlock, stagger, or do any great damage, they just hide on the ground and pop up in front of you so you can easily punch nice holes through them.

But hey, wasn't expecting them, so when I first met one I was like "WTF?".

Edit: But I loooove the new tileset, even had a Heavy Gunner in a house that rofl-stomped me when I was passing her door. (well she didn't kill me but you know - knockdown).

This is my highlight on Phobos. Fun enemies that you really need to bother first since they will kill you with hail of missiles. Also, I would like to have some of that Jetpack/Brrage bag on my back. XD

The "desert pancakes" are useful for distracting the grineer.  Apparently the dogs have finally found something they hate more than Tenno.

They royally screw with your ability to sprint across an area, lol. I keep bumping into the things (not complaining, per se) and yeah, it is hilarious when my Shade cloaks me near them and the Grineer suddenly forget about me (the Skates also forget about me) and they start fighting each other and I can just stand there and watch.

Agree for the most part. Look forward to more wildlife... found a few glitches and have had a few slowdowns, but for the most part great job with the terrain and the enemies. I think the "sandstorm"/invisible wall effect could be improved, esp. with some audio of howling winds. As for skates - should really be able to run over them when they're in the sand, very annoying when they create an obstacle course for me. (As mentioned above!)

The tileset kinda looks like it belongs on Mars, so Phobos is fitting... somewhat, at least. If our future actually consists of tilesets customised to planets/dwarf planets/moons, I look forward to an upper atmosphere station to be duplicated across Venus and the gas giants, with a simple skybox switch to match the appropriate planet!

  • 2 weeks later...

What I like about the new tiles is the lack of cover. It makes grineer crowds a dangerous force unless your squad has frost, vauban, or volt and encourages creative power use.
