Steel Fiber: (Almost) Most Useless Mod In The Game.

Other than the Elemental Damage Resistance (seriously who uses these?), Steel Fiber is the most useless mod in the game, that newbies unknowingly use, not quite understanding exactly how things work.

For starters, we have this wiki quote which calculates what Steel Fiber REALLY does...

From http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Steel_Fiber :

Due to the way armor is calculated (chart can be found below), it is not recommended to use this mod since Vitality offers better survivability against burst damage (damage taken without any healing). Even for the Rhino and Frost, who have the highest base armor in the game, the effective hit point increase for 4 mod points is 15%, while the same number of points with vitality gives a straight 120% HP increase.

So... you can get 15% effective health from Steel Fiber......OR.... 120% effective health from Vitality using the same Mod Cost of 4.

My Proposal:

Make it a straight-up Damage Reduction (2% per rank) on all damage that is not Laser, Toxin, Ice, Fire, Electricity. (meaning Blunt, Bullet, etc).

That way, this mod would be useful (20% damage reduction in Grineer Levels? Oh yes).

Also, cut the number of ranks in half and make it double: 5 Ranks max for 4% per rank.

That way, this mod would be useful equally for every frame and not 100% useless for everybody but Frost, Rhino and the next tier down (and even then, it is still a downgrade from Vitality).

I use steel fiber because it goes really well with redirection and fast deflection. My shields rarely drop if I keep an eye on them.

So if your shields rarely drop, why do you think Steel Fiber goes well with Redirection and Fast Deflection?  Steel Fiber is only good if your shields DO drop, since it boosts armor and armor only effects health.

You have an Ember Portrait.

Please Please tell me you were not equipping Steel Fiber on Ember.

Here's a hint: Ember Equipping a MAXED Steel Fiber gets a whopping ONE armor.

ONE.

Disagree. Instead of invalidating Warframe armor, Warframe armor should be made relevant.

You could DOUBLE Rhino's Armor and Steel Fiber would STILL be inferior to Vitality in all situations.

this is correct, unless it is bugged again.

i still have a rank 8 steel fiber from the time it was bugged and it was amazing.

Ahh, well consider me informed.

Like you would or could do anything of affect if I did (I did).

Like you would or could do anything of merit or effect if I did (I did).

I can't do anything other than inform you of how utterly useless waste of mod capacity points it is.

ANYTHING ELSE other than the Element Resistance mods would have been a better choice for those mod points.

ANYTHING.

Even Marathon, Quick Rest, and the like.

And you are not alone -- I bet a LOT of newbies thought "low armor, equip armor so I don't die as much!" and that's a very reasonable assumption to make.............except for in Warframe, that is.

Haven't done the math myself to confirm, but that's not exactly what I meant.

Armor could be tied to guard damage reduction, innate knock back resistance, or some other facet of gameplay.

Could, but DE wants us all to be glass cannons.

That's why they made it so that it is possible to die in <3 seconds on Mercury as a newbie if you get a couple Sawmen on you. In the very first mission, no less.

can't cut the steel fiber ranks in half. I have a maxed card for my frame and sent.

Surely it couldn't be that hard to adjust the mod cost and ranks, and benefit? When you log in next time you'd have the mod equipped, but it'd cost less which means you'd have free mod points.

You missed my point completely. I spent credits and sacrificed a lot of mods (families of them) to max it. :3
