How Bad Did I Screw Up Choosing Mag?

That description and that beautiful helmet pulled me in but I was shortly disappointed.The heavy shields are appreciated, but everything else is...well lets start with abilities.

 

Pull) Best bit about Mag. Yank something out of cover and let the team focus fire them while they're on their back. Disappointed I can't pull fallen allies like I heard I could.

 

Shield Polarization) Absolutely useless. I don't have status bars so I can't tell when my team needs it in the heat of battle and it barely touches enemy shields so the energy is best spent on two pulls.

 

Bullet Attractor) My teammates can aim and when this is on they're not hitting weak points. The explosion is pathetic.

 

Crush) Disappointing. I've got to drop this when surrounded by enemies, which makes the tendency for it to miss an enemy that's in range infuriating as I'm stuck there casting it. Worse still when I went to Jupiter with a friend most enemies completely no sell it. It did about as much damage as a charged melee.

 

 

So I've been relegated to spamming Pull and shooting away with my Braton. Though the worst part is that nothing ever drops for Mag. I've played 30 hours and I've gotten one drop of Shield Polarization. Were I rolling Excalibur, Loki, or Nyx a few of my skills would be godlike.

 

 

Is there really anything I can do? Or should I just suck it up and drop some dosh on a useful support or caster Frame like Trinity of Nyx.

if you had an excalibur friend you could make a power combo with bullet attractor+radial javelin

on your problem with shield polarize,press Z and itll show you your teammates shields and hp ,it can also be used on the pod in def if I recall correctly

Just cope with her until you get to fossa and farm that for rhino. Shes good enough for fossa.

 

That's if you really dislike her.

you didn't screw up... loki isn't useful, its only for trolling and for having fun. aside from a few bosses and in certain situations, don't bring a loki. and Excalibur is average, kind of like a mix between ash and rhino. no matter what starter you picked, its just a placeholder for a better frame. no biggie really. Also. for the love of god, please do not buy a frame.. work on farming one. unless its a really good frame, you will instantly regret buying a frame.

(Double) pull then crush works.

Since the rework you can't pull allies anymore. (but for that you can pull infinite enemys)

Also the alternate helmet gives extra range, the pull range and width will be really awesome at some point. (stretch mod helps aswell)

 

 

Incase you feel inclined to spend some money, there are 3 frames for 75 plat which are a bargain.

Excalibur, Loki, Volt (which at some point was a starter frame). These 3 come supercharged (orokin reactor) and with their own slot (you are limited here).

supercharge/reactor costs 20 plat. 2 WF slots cost 20 plat.

Ever since the 9.5 update, warframe parts are now relatively easy to acquire. Pick another warframe that looks cool, and simply farm for it. 

 

Just because you chose Mag in the beginning, doesn't mean it has to haunt you forever :)

true, like I said. certain situations. the invisible is good if you maybe rush.. but in terms of actually battle frames, it has no real shine to it aside from disarm.

I can understand your frustration (I am assuming you are just starting out). Hang in there :) Mag is one of my favourite frames. If you can get a medium level Redirection on her then her sheilds go through the roof! The next mod you want to look for is stretch <- this coupled with her ultimate helm when ever it pops up again (coil) will give you crazy range (Pull becomes a vortex sucking everything 68 in game meters in front of you closer, Crush gets a range on par with that of banshee's Sound Quake, Bullet attractor's bubble becomes twice the size of frosts Snow Globe, and Shield Porlarize gets more range). Other mods to be on the look out for are Flow and Streamline.

Loki is one of the best frames in the game hands down. (but don't tell DE, I want them to buff him to godly level)

 

@OP: Mag was my starting frame and I enjoyed her a lot. Pull was useless at that time though, but it could pull (downed) teammates which was great. Shield polarize I only used on the pod in defense if needed, but it's useless yea. Bullet Attractor is good for bosses (+excal's radial javelin) and Crush is satisfying to use though it could use a buff.

I don't think you screwed up, she's fine.

If you want Trinity it is EXTREMELY easy to get right now.

 

I got all three parts tonight and I'm a pretty casual player.

This will probably not continue for long so do it now if you want a new frame easy...

Something seems to be up with the damage of Crush. I was doing some runs on Rhino with a Mag recently and about half the time she could drop crush and one-shot mid-level enemies while I was raising my foot and yet so many people are seeing worse performance.

I dunno about that but i didn't regret choosing mag as my starter frame.. I usually just Pull>Crush Combo and kill most of the enemies.. Well i was using Max focus and stretch o-o..

 

Most of the times during def i just pull away most of the mobs that are near the cryopod then kill them with either crush or despair.

She's not that bad.

I used her for lolpulling all the things in T3 defense around. It's nice for team Torid users and an ultimate CC power given that it's just for 25 energy. You need to be a bit sneaky as it exposes you but it worked like a charm.

Only thing that downed me was the cannon laser in the defense position. And that's friendly fire.

well.. with the past bugs with mag like, I believe was crush, used to crash people randomly.. I wouldn't doubt some other issues but that could just be caused by different mods being used.

You also use any/other abilities to rank up whatever abilities you want.... you don't have to rank them up with just "themselves". Use all the Decoys, Mind Controls and Well of Lifes you're undoubtedly going to get to rank up any and all abilities you want.

Not as bad as you're fearing. Yes, Mag has two useless abilities, and yes Crush completely falls off in late game, but up to mid game Crush still kills everything. Max Crush, slap a stretch on her, and you'll be fine until you farm up another frame to play in late game.

This. Loki is supposed to be a stealth/utility frame with some support with switch teleport and radial disarm. He is supposed to be flexible not just another "hit button to win" frame.

 

Loki can attack enemies with invisibility and get a damage bonus making him more deadly than ash when invisible. Its not just a cheap get away mechanic he can murder a room of enemies with the right melee weapons and invis.

 

God just talking about him makes me want to ditch my quest for primes and just get Loki again.

That was my point... in his own right he is good. but he is notttt a good frame in terms of the playerbase. he is awesome when he needs to be. he is a stealthy frame best used with shade. it stems into the whole thing about how the game is making really overpowered frames being the norm now, while other frames are only good in the eyes of a few.

Mag pull used to be able to pull wounded allies. That was back when the game was awesome.

 

On the other hand, it also used to be single target, and now it's AOE. I still prefer the previous version; pulling allies was incredibly useful and makes Mag a really supportive frame, but the new Pull has its perks.

 

Regardless, Mag is still my favourite out of the 11 warframes in my arsenal, mainly because pull and bullet attractor both scale indefinitely with enemy levels. When you take a look at Ember's fireball or Saryn's venom skills for example; they become useless extremely quickly because they do a flat damage which becomes negligible at higher levels.

 

Another big reason is because her skill range when equipped with the alternative helm as well as the stretch mod becomes very formidable.

 

So yeah, crush doesn't do as much damage as some other ultimate abilities, and the cast-time where you're a sitting duck can be frustrating at first, but I find that mag's range can be positively augmented SO MUCH that your crush can eventually cover a ridiculous area - and that is worth it for me.
