Slide crit vs crit

Question

What are the technical differences between (mods that increase) slide attack crits and regular crits.

I know for one you need to slide and for the other not, but what I want to know is, are there any differences in the formulas on how the actual final crit chance is calculated?

If so, what is better: a riven with +crits or +slide crits?

Hi Mayahai,

The difference between normal crit modifier (point strike, ...) and slide crit modifier (maiming strike or rivens) is simple. While the normal modifier just adds a percentage of the base chance to it:

(ex. Skana with True Steel)

Base Crit Chance + ( Base Crit Chance x Crit Modifier) = 0.05 + (0.05 x 0.6) = 0.08 = 8%

You can see here that this type of modifier is only effective if the base crit chance is already relatively high. The slide crit modifiers however add a percentage to the base crit chance like this:

(ex. Skana with Maiming Strike)

Base Crit Chance + Slide Crit Modifier = 0.05 + 0.9 = 0.95 = 95%

Slide crit modifiers are much more effective and can add a lot of crit chance especially when paired with Blood Rush. Blood Rush will multiply the Slide crit modifier as well. You can find the calculations to that here:

http://warframe.wikia.com/wiki/Blood_Rush/Crit_Calculation/Equation

As an answer to your question, slide crit modifiers are always superior to normal crit modifiers. They add a lot more crit chance to the base chance, even when that is fairly high. However I don't suggest to use slide crit modifier on every weapon. It is good on weapons with high attack speed (or paired with berserker on slow weapons) and a lot of range, but is a bit of a hassle on weapons like daggers. The crit damage is also an important aspect to look at.

I hope this helps and have fun

Sincerely

+Crit on slide attacks is an ADDITIVE crit chance

Unmodded Critical Chance 10%

+Critical Chance on slide 90%

Slide attack critical chance: 10% + 90% = 100%

+Crit chance on riven mods is like on any other mod: adds a portion of the base.

Unmodded Critical Chance 10%

Critical chance +200%

Modded Critical Chance:

10% + ( 200% of 10% ).

10% + (20%)

30% modded Critical Chance.

As for Which one is better, it's just up to how you use the weapon.

Weapon need to proc Berserker Mod, but has really low crit chance? +Crit-on-slide will fix that.

Need a replacement for Maiming Strike? That's literally what +Crit-on-slide is.

Plan on slide-attacking all the time? +Crit-on-slide will make you stronger.

Don't plan on using slide attack often? +Crit-on-slide is useless to you, use +Crit chance.
