Can No Longer Interrupt Sobek Reload Early :-(

As per title - a possibly unintended change with the latest patch, which has really messed with game flow for me.

To elaborate:

Normally when you reload a weapon, you do not have to wait for the full animation to finish for the weapon to be "done" reloading. This means if the animation is interrupted in whatever way near the end, the weapon is still reloaded. This was nice because it allowed players to input a bit of 'skill' into the reload cycle, intentionally interrupting the reload once the bullets were already in the gun (usually by blocking briefly).

Sadly it seems the new sobek reload animation has broken this - it is especially bad with this gun due to it's very long reload and really changes the flow of playing with it in (to me) a negative way.

Yeah I noticed this as well and it's really irritating, to those above me... you can do it with every weapon and some players are used to do it so taking it out of Sobek is unfair really, if you are going to do this to Sobek then do this to every other weapon as well.

The fact that it's only changed for this weapon when this weapon got a new animation this patch makes me lean towards this being a bug, and being able to interrupt reloads early being intended functionality.

I mean, why on earth would you code in "lets put the ammo in the gun at 3/4 of the reload time" in the first place?

What's funny is that the new animation is very much done at 3/4 already - you eject the old clip, put in a new clip, take your hand entirely OFF the gun, then have to sit on your thumb for a full second or somehow the bullets magically teleport out of the gun...

Urgh self moderating because I don't want to drag this thread down. People, if you're happy with the change and want it for all guns, say so, and say your reasons. Lets have a discussion instead of sarcastic whining.

PERSONALLY I really like the existing 'interrupt' mechanism, and think it should be expanded into a full blown 'active reload' system, like in gears of war for example, that would allow for a higher skill ceiling while playing. the direction the sobek has gone is the opposite to this, hence my opposition.

Old post here, mostly just spiteful drivel, nothing useful.

I'm honestly baffled at the people thinking this is some kind of exploit. I mean, "oh noes players can get minor tactical advantage by playing skillfully!!! STOP PLEZ"

You know what else you can do?

 - You can shoot most enemies in the head instead of the body and it deals more damage!! I think this is an exploit, really should be removed.

 - If you crouch while running, you will slide and get a burst of speed! This lets you move slightly faster than normal running, obviously an exploit, should be removed.

 - Worse still, if you perform a melee attack while doing the above sliding exploit, you get an even bigger burst of speed! obviously this is an exploit and everyone who has ever attacked while sliding should be banned for doing double exploits.

Edit2 : removed reference to deleted post

  • 3 weeks later...

actually i noticed this on all guns. And no this was not an exploit. This was to allow for a grace period if you reloading while falling and hit hte ground slightly before its done. Its basically a grace period to allow to flow into other things.

And yes i manual interrupt reload on all my guns and for the longer reload guns it seems the window has narrowed dramatically. Before it was exactly at 75% on all guns. Now it is a set .3-.4 seconds regardless of reload time.

i haven't noticed any problems exploiting with Sobek.

+1

it was never intendet that you can "break" the reload earlier and the mag still got reloaded

glad its fixed. thanks for informing everyone that this bug finally got patched.

however, you can still skip 25% of the reload time with EVERY other gun in the game. this is a common problem in shooters, these 'exploits' are there deliberately, but it's dumb. if you're reloading, reload. if you want to reload faster, use a reload mod. if that's not fast enough, too bad.

skipping part of the reload is a different ballpark from figuring out how to walk faster, it's directly combat related.

anyways, skipping part of reloads is dumb, but if we're going to have it, make it a feature, rather than a deliberate exploit. some other games have done this (best example, Darkest Of Days), and they have a UI feature for this, rather than your character just skipping part of the reload, which in many other games, can include things like not inputting a new magazine, not charging the bolt on a weapon that by design requires it, etc.

visually this can really make a game look dumb. but if there's a UI feature for it, and your character just reloads faster, rather than just cancelling the animation, that's a lot better.

i'm for both of removing this 'exploit' from all weapons, or making it a full feature. but one of these, how it is now is gimmicky and makes less sense than anything else in this game. we're suggesting that the gun will just reload itself if we want it to. if that's the case, why isn't this Supreme Commander where it's a 100% robot army? what are people needed for? the weaponry can clearly fight on it's own @.@
