Levels Look Too Much Alike

Well... There are only 2 tilesets in the game so far and the 2nd one was introduced like 2 weeks ago. You gotta give the devs time to make more areas. To answer your question, you'll be seeing the same levels for a long while until more are introduced.

The game randomly generates maps with different rooms. There are currently 2 tilesets; the asteroid base and the space ship.

So the 'maps' aren't "just repeated parts of the level".

This is how the game is and to be honest, I like it this way. It gives it a bit of a modern arcade-ish feeling to it - it's a good niche, but a bit of a gamble.

Hopefully the devs are working or will be working on corpus and infestation tilesets. :D

EDIT:

And yes, you will be seeing these same 'maps' for a long time.

As Tauxi said, it is actually quite deliberate. Games like Diablo, Rogue, and Warframe use what the others here referred to as "tilesets". This is a set of X number of rooms - say a dozen/fifty/hundred different rooms (I don't know how many there actually are) and they are designed to mix and match freely to a degree. So when you play a mission it creates a "randomly generated dungeon", as it is commonly known.

The advantage to these kind of games is the arcade-esque feeling Tauxi mentioned, but also it allows the Devs to make repeating and similar level types with few resources. The point of the game is not exploration (movement, yes, but not finding secret treasure troves and hidden rooms), rather it is about being stuck on a ship and fighting your way through a crowd of enemies. You also get a degree of familiarity; if each level and each planet was radically different, you would have to memorize new routes, new vantage points, new ambush spots, etc for each level. Which is time consuming, labor intensive, and distracts from the run 'n' gun style of the game. Less focus on where you are, and more focus on what's trying to kill you.

They can add variety through special "enhancers" or variables. You will come across ships that have had damage to the ship integrity so there are fires everywhere that damage you. Or another level will have ice throughout, reducing how effective your shields are. This helps keep the levels fresh.

Overall, though, don't expect to see a unique tileset for every single planet in the game. While I imagine they will add more over time, it's going to largely draw on this grab-bag style of generating maps.

It's a genre thing, and unfortunately for those that don't like it, is a pretty fundamental aspect of the style.

ew i dont want infestation tilesets...they might make them without boxes to climb on so they cant reach you, oh god....

Or more like whatever there is to climb, you wouldn't want to because the thing you would be climbing is probably gross and disgusting just like anything that's infected >_>

-

-

3 Imply more story( what was that? where did it come from? search [new planets] for answers!) possibly land on and "enclosed/open" world of some sort.

I will stop playing this game simply as the levels are way too repeatative. So will alot of other people used to decent level design, which makes or breaks a game.

You can play Left 4 Dead 2 over and over because, although its the same 10-15 maps, there is so diversity within the design of each of them.

People may say its the intention, but I very much doubt it is deliberatley so. The mercury map feels like it was once a proper "Level" of a game that never made it far enough to be made.

In reality the designers are working with a very limited set of resources, and this will be their undoing I'm afraid. There is only so many times you can play the same looking levels over and over, just with a different gun or different enemies.

Well you know it is a beta. They don't have enough time to put in all the levels that you want now >_> You're welcome to post any criticism about the room-block system but if all you're saying is that the game doesn't have enough maps, you're basically stating the obvious. Looking at some of the Grineer Asteroid maps, I can tell future levels will end up being very interesting and overall fun to play in.
