If you post times, please post GMT times.

I'm sick and tired of looking up every dev's timezone deviations, just post GMT and let users calculate for themself, please.

 

I.e. NY is +8 i think? 13:00 +8 is 5:00 GMT

You could do that for any time zone they post anyway. It does not matter.

Er, uh, what?  I can just as easily Google time zone calculators for GMT as I can for EST.  And a lot of the DEv's will post links to such calculators in their main posts anyway.

Aren't they always use ET though? Why the need to change to GMT again? You'd still have to count in the end.

EST is fine. I subtract 3 hours from it to get my own time zone. I'm not interested in this GMT thing.

Watch this. I'll even show you trick on how to convert. 

On your computer (Assuming PC not mac) right click on the time. Click on "Adjust date/time". Now select the timezone you want to look at. There you go, you have the time for them.

 

Besides, 90% of the time what they post in is the same as EST. It's pretty simple to calculate without even looking. 

 

Assume EST/ET==12:00PM

 

Eastern=12:00pm

Central=11:00Am

Mountain=10:00AM

Pacific=9:00AM

 

I'm in Mountain so I always just minus two.

Don't see how one timezone is more convenient than any other.  Maybe I'm a bit biased being in EST myself.

I think the only way it could be improved is by having a widget that adjusts to the viewer's system timezone :T

I could understand asking for a common timezones to be added in addition although it shouldn't be too hard for users to work it out for themselves. But seemingly asking for your timezone to be used instead of the current is just pure entitlement.

All you need to do is google the time zone in question and compare the difference to your own (use a calculator if need be.) In my case the difference is 5 hours (EST > GMT.)

That might be the problem right there. New York is currently GMT +4

Not really needed but in some ways it would make sense.  When operations cross multiple time zones the various armed forces of the world use GMT to avoid confusion.  However most of the player base is not military.

OP is pointing to the fact that some people play other multiplayer games, too. "Server time" may be a different standard for each developer. So it gets difficult to keep track of time zones. That's why, to avoid confusion, it's usually:

• English
• Metric
• GMT
