[Using Custom Desktop Logo for a crosshair overlay?]

So, long story short, my vision is going a bit S#&$, even with glasses, and the default Warframe crosshair tends to disappear among all the chaos going on on screen. Why DE decided to go with a tiny white dot and give us no customization options is baffling, but that's a discussion for another time. Anyway, I found a program (http://customdesktoplogo.wikidot.com/) that will let me overlay a graphic on my screen, but I've read all kinds of horror stories about people getting banned for running any kind of 3rd party program, even one as harmless (?) as an overlay.

Has anyone used something like this? What's been your experience with it? Any other solutions short of sticking a piece of tape on my screen and using a sharpie? I love this game but as it is now I can barely play it.
