  1. Noting this similarity started making me wonder how actual Tenno marriages would work now if they exist at all

given their present lifestyle comprised largely of mercenary work and their present fixed lack of allegiance to any moral or legal code save for their own and the fact that most Tenno seem to congregate only when they're working together on a job or when they're part of a clan...

Something akin to the pirate system of "matelotage" might be more suited for the Tenno

mingled in with some stuff emulating the traditions of their former Orokin masters and Void-based Tenno mysticism.

it might be fun to watch it happen though.

  2. One of my friends told me that they're basically made of credits so the first thing that came to my mind was:

    money-garland_1519193i.jpg

    311880-manPHOTOSFARHANLASHARIEXPRESS-132

    SSPakistan178.jpg

"notoon walay haar" (lit. "money garlands")

a thing sometimes worn by grooms in Pakistan during weddings though I've seen evidence the practice happens in India too

    ...Tenno marriage confirmed!?

  3. Dunno if anyone already bought ir up here but well, I did put out a suggestion for a bomber/explosives/demolitions frame a while ago (Here actually: https://forums.warframe.com/index.php?/topic/445987-cherrybomb-demolitionexplosives-frame/ )

I'd  also love to see like a hunter/beast frame. Technically we kinda HAVE Valkyr for that already though, since she's vaguely cat-themed... but she's based on drawing power from painful past experiences and being a berserker.

    And... Someone suggested a were-frame.

I want something like that. Let's combine the idea of the hunter and beast/were frames

I was thinking like- like Chroma, it wears a pelt, but instead of the pelt splitting off into it's own thing as the 4 ability- the frame FUSES with the pelt, basically embodying many of the traits of the original creature and combining them with it's own traits.

They can be a girl- their normal form is like really small minus the pelt, and has a helmet that looks VAGUELY like a puppy with floppy ears and S#&$, and probably has more support oriented skills involving holding enemies in place or sniffing them out or retrieving them (kind of like what hunting dogs actually do during hunting trips with people) but then she transform into a bizarre giant hairy brute that smashes and bites the stuffing out of things.

I saw an idea for an emotion or love based frame earlier on in this thread. I'd like to second that. I'd also like it to be a dude. A very feminine dude.

We can call him Eros or Cupid.

  4. hm, er

    Bili

    Sher

no, not sci-fi enough. Plus those are literally just the Urdu words for a cat and a lion or a tiger respectively

    ... Bagheerex?

I'm awfully tempted to suggest naming them after a furry friend of mine who has a cat fursona (she goes by the name Emiko. That's a bit odd sounding for a species name, never mind)

...Will we be having Kubrow based on like, bigger cats? like lynxes and S#&$? Caracals?

    wait- how about... Feracals.

  5. someone was saying one should be a more passive form and have buffs and the other should be a more aggro form

Anima totally looks like she'd be the more aggro of the two, going from her witchy look. Animus' design is too plain for me to comment on right now but it does look quite a bit less aggressive.

perhaps Animus is like fast and Anima is slower but stronger

  6. The bit too much was basically everything in the spoiler. Chromosones and biological sex, and all of that.

Which you kind of just said is irrelevant since the tenno have no defined gender.

So why even bring it up?

I bring it up as a sort of a footnote,

because I see people bringing biological sex into discussions about Warframes a bunch and repeatedly making the rookie mistakes of:

    - thinking that biological sex and gender identity are the same thing,

    - that either of them are strictly a super-simple easy-to-discern binary.

    - that biological sex necessarily influences gender identity or other mental traits (this is also what I believe is referred to as "biological essentialism" or as "biotroof" and it's malicious use is a sort of common calling card argument used by many transphobic, misogynistic, and homophobic individuals)

...By the way, I might be mistaken but you also appear to be making one of these mistakes here when you complain about me bringing up facts about biological sex and then saying I "just said is irrelevant because the tenno have no defined gender"

I do apologize if I was unclear, I meant to say that neither the sex nor the gender of Tenno (or at least not the gender of your player Tenno) is mentioned or commented upon in the lore or the game.

Though it is clear that DE designs each of the frames to deliberately appear "male" or "female" to us the players, that is the only thing that is true and anything ELSE is what's really "reading too much into it"

anyway if you actually look at the definitions of the Jungian psych stuff that Animus/Anima are named after...

Anima is basically an anthropomorphic representation of a man's repressed collective "feminine" traits

And Animus is the respective representation of a woman's repressed collective "masculine" traits

it's important to note that these are "repressed" to begin with because the society Jung was in and even many societies now uphold this (kinda really  S#&$ty) idea that men should not have any feminine traits and that women should not have any masculine traits, and (speaking from real life experience here) even enforce this with violence.

Now that I think about it- It'd be kinda interesting to see a frame that somehow weaponizes these otherwise-repressed traits, the way Valkyr frames weaponize the pain and fear the original Valkyr felt at the hands of the Corpus.

  7. I think you're reading a BIT too much into it...

    ... define "bit too much".

Because when it comes to gender in Warframe it's already... Well, the Player Tenno has no stated gender and is referred to as only Tenno or Operator (neither of which are gendered terms), and can wear "male" and "female" frames (a few of which are ALREADY kind of ambiguous in those regards) with impunity.

and if that's not enough, you can wear a "male" or "female" frame but have the animation set (read: body language) of literally any other frame.

and whether or not Tenno/Frames have a biological sex is pretty much unsaid though I guess we're supposed to assume that they DID have one at some point, because they're void-afflicted humans or something and we as the players are humans.

In my point of view I'm not "Reading too much into it" so much as I'm slightly playing off of what's already there and presented to you in the game??

  8. I'm confused on this...

First off I'm actually SORT of glad they're sort of reconsidering using the male/female dichotomy for Animus/Anima.

Why? well (spoilered for length and information dump and possible lore spoiler):

The idea of the "male" and "female" genders as being complementary opposites or as a discrete binary- Well, even if it admits that men and women can and do have some feminine traits and masculine traits respectively, it sort of upholds the idea that those two are the only two things possible,

Which is... Well, many cultures do not see it that way and it's really only modern Western culture that enforces this idea, often through violent imperialism and colonialism (http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/two-spirits/map.html check this map out for cultures that have a concept of genders outside of male and female).

Plus, there are individuals regardless of culture who simply do not fit this male-female dichotomy at all.

And before anyone brings up "biological sex" and "chromosomes"-

First off let me remind you that intersex people exist and, for example- among other things you can have XY chromosomes and be female because of Androgen Insensitivity-

Hell actually, chromosomes are pretty irrelevant because people RARELY ever get their chromosomes checked so you could very easily be a neckbearded man in a fedora going "XY is male, XX is FEMALE" while shaking a high school bio textbook, only for it to turn out that you have XX chromosomes because De La Chapelle's syndrome, or even XXY or XYY chromosomes!

Also the last I checked the official real actual science definition for "biological sex" refers to whether or not an organism produces macrogametes or microgametes and as far as we know Tenno don't seem to have gametes let alone genitalia or chromosomes, and probably don't even reproduce (seeing as the lore seems to suggest it was necessary for the Orokin to repeatedly send ships full of kids en masse into the void to produce their Tenno army).

though if they DID decide to make Animus/Anima non-binary or bigender it'd still be great.
  9. tl;dr: the Warframes are all kids' deviantART OCs or something in-universe made real by Orokin tech.

addendum: also the Kubrow are 1 or 2 steps away from being sparkledogs

  10. @DeMonkey and @SilentMobius

well thanks for clearing up that the monster alluded to in the RPC is prolly not related to the Zariman kids in any way

it also looks like pretty much everyone beat me to the punch on Kaleen possibly being Lotus

I was sort of just making this thread because I wanted to go "oh, haha, so that's why Warframes and their users are so colorful and shiny and varied- they were probably children or something when they got their frame stuff"

plus I keep having this mental image of like a group of void-ridden kids who would grow up to be the original Warframe users or something

  11. someone probably already spotted this or made a thread about this

But... take a look at Ember Prime's codex entry

'Not exactly.' Kaleen hesitated. 'We thought it was empty but we began to find...' Her face twitched at remembered pain, 'We began to find children hiding in the ship.'

'And that is when you violated procedure?'

Kaleen bowed her head, a tear welling in her sightless eye. 'They were children. They were afraid. They needed comfort.'

'So you broke quarantine and this happened to you.'

There was silence as Kaleen touched her face, 'So what have you done with them?'

The old woman gestured for the officer to take Kaleen away. The meeting was over. When Kaleen reached the door she twisted out of his grip and shot back, 'Why would you do that? Why did you put children on military ship?'

And the Excalibur Prime codex entry

We took the twisted few that had returned from that place. We built a frame around them, a conduit of their affliction. Gave them the weapons of the old ways. Gun and blade. A new warrior, a new code was born. These rejects, these Tenno, became our saviors. Warrior-Gods cast in steel and fury striking our enemies in a way they could never comprehend. Excalibur was the first.

I'm not completely sure what this means but it seems to imply that most of the Tenno were (at first anyway) literal child soldiers used by the Orokin against the Ancients

Of course though, the Rhino Prime Codex entry suggests the Tenno are something else, completely- and the narrator in it refers to them as "monsters".

A gate opens inside me and recognition floods in. I have seen this monster before. I have cut its shell and eviscerated its brothers. I have given it pain and measured its response. I have crafted then rejected countless like it.

But I've never seen this beast so close, without the shield, without restraints. I have never seen it... free.
I know I will die so I just watch with curious acceptance. The beast squats down, shovelling a heap of gore into its mouth. It is watching me with vague eyes, a sense of recognition, ancestral memory. It knows who I am and what I've done. It rears up like a bear and roars, shattering the lights and casting us into darkness. I can hear it lumbering toward me, its metal fingers rending the walls, but I know I am dead. I close my eyes and stand ready to pay.

I feel the pull on my arm and realize Davis got the cell open. He tugs me into the cell beyond and I fall on my back. I see Davis standing at the open door, waiting, as the monster tears towards us.
Suddenly I could live through this I shout, "Davis, close the goddamn door!" - But he shakes his head eyes wide as moons. He shouts, "Watch!" over the roaring and rending of metal.

Then silence. Davis is panting, laughing? The beast fills the doorway, inches from him, dripping in blood, but still without violence. It stands there, looking at its hands. Davis whispers, "No one would have believed me."
I crawl up the wall to stand, opposite the door. I've never seen this cell, a cold place with an array of shelves. A morgue? "Where are we, Davis?"
"This is where they keep them. The ones from Zariman." I'm thrown, what was the Zariman? The ship that never returned? "Davis, what's going on?"
Davis turns to me, a smile forming - "What's going on is..." he turns back to the beast now silent and calm.

    "...big, fat promotions."

But that doesn't mean they were ALWAYS "monsters", remember that they were "twisted by the void" and that the Orokin "built a frame around them".

at this point I was going to draw a parallel between the Kaleen person alluded to in the Ember Prime codex entry and the Lotus because you can't see most of Lotus' face (so you can't see the eyes or burnt skin that hasn't healed), because they both talk in a sort of emotionless voice, but I realized that that might not make much sense

Either way, the Tenno being kids when they first got their powers and frame S#&$ kind of explains a few things about the types of Warframes that exist and their powers.

I mean, we have a rainbow dragon thing (Chroma), a magician (Limbo), some kind of thing an emo kid would draw (Nekros), a magical girl (Mirage), a pirate (Hydroid), and...

yeah no I can't unsee the "original" users of these frames as having been kids

Excalibur was probably some English kid the other original frame-users called Eggsy as a joke. I'm sorry I was watching Kingsman: the secret service recently and couldn't get this out of my head

  12. I think these are pretty fair comparisons and analyses. Although as to the "which is realer" war, I think both the Grineer and Corpus are pretty realistic in terms of their attitudes and ideologies: atheist fascism vs evangelical capitalism. And then the Infested are basically spiritual communists.

pfFFF and people thought I was taking the &!$$

    this made me laugh somehow

  13. Oberon's my favorite, and possibly most suited to my playstyle. Or maybe Oberon is designed to fit a variety of playstyles? I'm not sure.

Either way, it's kinda come to the point I use him almost exclusively right now.

... Which is probably NOT a good thing but it attests to how fun I find it to play as Oberon.

the only skill I see needing any changes is possibly Renewal. I want to help my teammates but I keep getting left behind and then the healy dealies can't make it to them on time god damn it.

  14. Ohhh...Please no...Please don't do this. Please don't make a thread that is so volatile. Please don't make a thread on social issues comparisons. That's a real easy way to start a fire, yo.

    ...Too late...

There isn't much of a fire. Not by my point of view

We haven't started straight up attacking each other, we're just throwing points and counterpoints back and forth and the one person who did get mad simply loudly declared they were leaving so I'm not gonna be screwing with them really

  15.

You seem to have something against the right wing parties in the US, comparing them with Nazis and all. I get people have their sides of governments but I wouldn't really say the conservative parties are close to Nazis but that's just me. I get the comparisons a bit, but I think you are trying too hard.

Well, most right-wing politicians in the USA are:

-Racist (most notably they hate black people, and are anti-Semitic, among other things)

    -Homophobic (and Transphobic)

    -Islamophobic

    -Generally S#&$ty people

-Usually in league with or supported by people who are pretty explicitly neonazis.

    -Christian conservatives

the comparison to Nazis is... sorry, kind of fitting.

and many of the conservative and far right European parties are VERY explicitly Nazis or very close to them in ideology

Yeah, I've got a bias alright. A bias against douchebags who probably want me dead.

  16. To me the Grineer are far more real than the Corpus.

They are National Socialists to the core.  Extreme xenophobia, incredible racism, totalitarian government...

You get what I am saying.

The Corpus are simply a theological regime based around the Orokin and the gain of personal wealth.  That's not real to me at all.

Personally, I have no clue why you said the Corpus were Nazi like when the real Nazis are the Grineer.

Well I was mostly going off the religious connotations and how Nazism went hand in hand with Christian religious conservatism and how Fascist ideology fetishizes the Holy Roman Empire and how that relates to the Corpus' fetish of Orokin tech and their Latin useage

Plus, like I said- elements of Prosperity Gospel and Christian Evangelism evoked by Nef Anyo

and of course some of the Blatant capitalism themed imagery the Corpus are laced with. Modern capitalism pretty much IS about the gain of personal wealth for a select few at the expense of everyone else.

to me the Grineer are way too @(*()$ over the top to be "Real". Especially when you have the Corpus pulling the strings with all the god damn money in the system.

  17.

They may have widespread mutations and deformities, but they are still the same person, all still the same race.

The Corpus do indeed have multiple races within them as evidenced in "The Profit" trailer. The Corpus will also be getting female soldiers as confirmed by DE. The Corpus are also comprised of more than two people.

As it stands, the Grineer are not diverse what-so-ever.

Well, they're a bit more fantastical and less "real" to me as villains than the Corpus. Plus Vay Hek is great fun as a villain where Alad V and Nef Anyo are insidious and... greasy.

On a side note. I'm going to admit ... maybe I DID read too deep into this.

I'm Pakistani and I've had a number of negative experiences involving racist white Islamophobic Christian conservative and republican types harassing me online.

So I'm a bit more hyperaware of anything that looks or stinks remotely like them. A lot of times they're very... subtle with their Islamophobia and overall racism, dolling it up in things like faux science and polite fancy words and psuedointellectualism and what not

The good news is, to relieve the stress I get from the fact that these A******s exist and can and do make life hell for people like me I just have to blow a few holes in some fictional robot-lovin Corpus shmucks.

They're the closest I'll get to pummeling the S#&$ out of these people
