Exalted Weapon combo meter resets

I understand that exalted melee weapons have their own combo meter, which runs on a separate timer from your original melee weapon. This appears to make the combo meter reset when you first switch to your exalted weapon and it says 0, and again when you go back to your normal melee weapon.

It's confusing and frustrating. I find, for example, that exalted blade SUCKS compared to just using Paracesis... and ONLY Paracesis. This is largely due to the combo reset effect. Completely deters use of exalted melee weapons.
