Railjack: Improved Missions

TL;DR Ideas about future Railjack missions, Free Flight, Endless missions and Community Goals to help out casual or new players.

This post is not about the debated energy system or how the defense mission sucks or about the bugs.

With the release of the new Corpus Proxima regions I do believe Railjack is going into the right direction and yes, I've done all the missions, farmed all the components / turrets and fused them to their max potential. Got all the new toys / mods. Over the past week and I've been thinking how Railjack missions could be improved in the future.

Free Flight / "Endless" Missions

Toss a coin to your Railjack player, let us enjoy free flight. Reward players who completed all the nodes in a proxima, let us drool over the beautiful environments you have created. Without map bounds, space is boundless. Some fear the empty void of endless space, some bask in it.

So what about "endless" missions? Well, open up your navigation console in free flight so you can start scanning for points of interests (maybe a small holographic balcony view of the planet?). Here you can start progressive missions with A B C rotation. Let's say it's Neptune:

  • Free Solaris from the Ice Mines

Resource heavy tileset, we all love our farming spots. Right now, resources are all over in the missions. Wrap them into a neat mission type while doing some good for the system. Mission objectives: (A) Clear all Crewships around the ice mines ->(B) Exterminate all corpus units in the ice mines -> (optional) Doing the exterminate fast enough or without raising an alarm spawns in a Cargo Ship -> (C) Exterminate all corpus on the Cargo Ship and mark it for salvage, (optional) find all the resource caches aboard the Cargo Ship. Rewards can be reputation, resources and relics, plus additional resouces around the map.

  • Reduce Corpus Presence in the Sector

Hit fast, hit hard! Destroy the corpus transport ship before it escapes! Add a timer with a progress bar. Mission objectives: Destroy security nodes and disable transport ship engines with the railjack before the timer runs out.  -> Board the transport ship and sabotage it from the inside. (optional) Capture / Kill high value targets before the ship blows up! (optional) Disable neaby corpus proxy factory. Destroy the template. Rewards can be mods and weapon parts, blueprints.

Additional machanic could be added, where you prevent additional reinforcements spawning in by destroying reinforcement beacons. Gotta keep it fast.

  • Weaken Corpus Fleet

Take bite from the Corpus Fleet! Don't throttle all of us into Obelisks, theres a space battle outside! This could be a true endless type of Volatile, with rotation A B C C C ~. Give us a few minutes before the next Obelisk(s) with their optional tasks arrive so we can decide to stay or bail. Rewards can be railjack components(endo farm?). No idea, how corpus liches will operate, but rotation C could be a way to force spawn your lich.

  • Defend the Relay / Event Node (outside freeflight)

Throw in the Razorback Armada / Fomorian Fleet. Defend panic rooms on the relay from demolishers until the factory disabled. Destroy the Shield Array, before boarding the main objective.

None of this needs and extensive combat arena, with large structures (looking at Charon 😲) , just a few random asteroids / wreckage for a point of reference. This doesn't have to conflict with existing nodes either, we would still have orphix venom and normal nodes to learn the ropes.

 

...yeah yeah, but what's the point?

 

The Community Goal

If there's a higher place to be and more or better rewards to earn, there could be a community goal. Progressive, plain Resource / Affinity / Drop Chance increase over the proxima region during the week, similar to the dark sector nodes. This buff would affect regular star chart nodes, not just railjack missions.

Progressive? Why bother?

  • Dialy Goals

This of course, can be implemented in other ways, but, here's someting: Dialy Community goal is to do 50-500 Free Solaris missions in the Neptune Proxima as a community. When the goal is met, this would give +5% extra Resource Boost for a week. Goal resets every day, however the buff remains active until the weekly reset and it STACKS. Bonuses could be earned in each mission type, ie.: Affinity from fleet battles, Drop Chance from reducing enemy presence.

  • Why bother?

The idea is to help out newer players or players who mainly play during the weekend to progress the game faster. This way the community can help out each other, and perhaps add a leaderboard to see who blesses us with loot. Toss a coin for the newbies too.
