JerZeyCJ
I've been wondering about something for a few days. A couple of days ago, my internet providers shut off my houses internet, except, not completely? As you can tell by me actually posting this, I still have access to the warframe forums, along with youtube, facebook, and join.me. Anybody know what's up with this or has had it happen to them before? I figure if it was a glitch, it would have been fixed days ago. Attempting to visit any sites other than those four(with the possibility of others I'm unaware of) gives me the usual "Verizon Walled Garden" saying that my internet has been shutoff. edit: To further add to the strangeness, it appears that only my computer is the one with access to these sites, my sister gets none at all, while my mom can only connect to facebook. Jakl635
well your provider can block certain sites from your accessibility, but as to why you can view somewhat text-based sites is confusing to me.
Decarien
Can you get to https://www.google.com? If so, it might be that you can't go to http sites, but you can go to places like youtube, warframe, or join.me that are https (if so, i suggest you not log off your account as you probably won't get back). Oh, also, what router do you have, and do you know why they shut off your internet? Edited February 25, 2014 by Decarien

Hmm, that's odd. I tried going onto google when it first got shut off by using my search bar and it gave me the walled garden page. But using your link allowed me onto the site. I think you may be right. My saved google short that pops up in my search bar is just google.com but adding the https like in yours works.
Decarien
Interesting. Not a solution, but interesting. 30 second search of google finds this: Sounds like you are stuck at the walled garden. Bypass it using one of the following links, based on the modem you have. I am assuming the modem is a Verizon branded modem.ActionTec: http://192.168.1.1/verizon/redirectWestell: http://192.168.1.1/verizon/redirect.htmAt this page, just click the disable button. Once that is done you should be able to surf without a problem. If you need a username and password for these pages, it matches what the modem uses for the WebUI. Try the following if you have not changed the password to your own:admin / passwordadmin / password1admin / adminadmin / admin1admin / verizonadmin / verizon1 Possibly relevent. Lemme know. JerZeyCJ
-snip- Oh, also, what router do you have, and do you know why they shut off your internet? Just the normal FiOS router that Verizon gives you. The internet got shut off because of bills.
JerZeyCJ
Interesting. Not a solution, but interesting. 30 second search of google finds this: Possibly relevent. Lemme know. Is that...legal? I mean, the walled garden is Verizon's way of shutting off your internet and getting you to pay money. Wouldn't they notice you were going to a site like that or at the very least, still using the internet?
Decarien
If your internet was cut off because of bills then I doubt that will actually work. I believe those links act to get you around a glitch in the modem registration (like hitting F5 to refresh a webpage), but if you're no longer a registered customer it shouldn't shouldn't allow you to go through their servers. Oh, and as a rule of thumb, using someone else's stuff without permission or paying for it is rarely legal. If it does allow you through, then it's an exploitable bug, which is bad. In either case, you now know the answer to your question. What you do is up to you. Edited February 25, 2014 by Decarien

It's such an obvious thing though, and it's not like https is an uncommon link, two big sites(youtube and facebook) use it. How could they not know about this? Decarien
You'd be amazed at how a small, accidental or shortsighted, design decision can make huge problems down the line when it comes to computers. And you'd be even more amazed at how difficult those small decisions are to FIX later as well. I assume they use the walled guarden like a firewall, preventing your access, but nothing is perfect. Https is probably allowed because they want you to be able to do something through a web interface. Besides, most sites aren't https access unless you're logged on as a user. You can access the warframe forums as JerZeyCj because you had already created a user and logged on, requiring a secure connection and hence https, but if you hadn't then your computer would access the forums as http and be blocked. Truthfully, you shouldn't be on here, and you'll probably get in trouble if they find out what you're doing. Still, as I said, what you do is up to you.
