Alternatives To Invulnerability, Also Making Valkyr A Real Beserker

Why not have powers that give invulnerability? It puts the player from an active mind set of got to stay alive to a passive mindset. The problem here is that in warframe powers, even ultimates can be spammed, so players can be left in a constant existence of no try mode. There are different ways to about fixing this.

 

1. Players cannot have invulnerability instead have other awesome benefits

 

2. Players have what is essentially invulnerable but requires an active role instead of passive (no more going afk to check the door bell sorry guys =( )

 

I am going to discuss number 2 as it is not discussed nearly enough in the forums as an alternative, and also discuss Valkyr who will being redesigned soon is a prime candidate with her possibility of hysteria redesign despite Trinity being a bigger problem. Now how to do this?

 

1. Give her damage reduction to prevent the player from being bursted down.

 

2. Give her infinite stamina or an insanely high stamina regeneration for parry spam, which is going to negate almost all damage while she is not in melee. You could also add increased movement speed to reduce travel time in between melee.

 

3. Give her base life leech or increase her life leech to the point that as long as she in hitting something in melee she is going up to full life constantly.

 

4. Give her immunity to CC so that she doesn't just die to being stuck on her butt.

 

Now we go from hysteria from just being another boring cheat mode that requires you to melee as the downside, to you are a really awesome unstoppable berserker who parries all cowards bullets who are too afraid to get into melee with her (and/or jumps from melee to melee at incredible speeds). She also can take blows that could kill a normal person but thrives off the pain and blood of her enemies to keep her going.

 

There are different ways to go about this and not all benefits should/can be limited to these. Example you could add increased damage, but it would go along way in making the game more exciting and changing Valkyr from an angry combat medic who works part time as a cheat code with a downside to an actual berserker who is essentially invulnerable with hysteria up, but requires the player to be active.

while it sounds nice, there are some issues.

 

first off she can't parry

 

2nd, this is her ultimate, and its entirely melee 1 enemy at a time. not to mention you have to run to them.

 

while most ultimates involve a large area effect all at once, valkyrs is less attractive in the fact that you need to run to enemys 1 by 1.

 

and the invincibility isn't as invincible as you think.  all enemys in melee range gain a red glow, you can kill them yes, but if more and more enemys come in melee range, they continue to get red glows

 

when the skill ends, any enemys in melee range get all the dmg they did ever since they entered your melee range to hit you. 

which can actually be pretty extreme.

(and if you run out of thier melee zone, they keep the red glow and you continue to take dmg from them. which will all be put on you when it ends)

 

giving valkyr dmg res is a BAD idea. as remember she gets life steal.

 

they removed ember's overheat cause she has 90% dmg res.

valkyr sits at like 86% dmg res WITHOUT a skill. adding more dmg res will make her better than overheat ember. which will make people wonder why overheat was removed.

 

 

 

in the end, valkyr's hysteria is a low dmg, invicibility skill.

the long duration is the only real appeal.

 

remove it, and you ruin the ultimate. as it will be a low dmg, non invincible skill.

 

 

 

also keep in mind what hysteria is. Valkyr literally loses her mind, goes primative. and attacks with whatever she has at hand(aka the claws)

she feels nothing, her armor locks down as she isn't breathing(you know. take deep breaths to calm down. well this is the opposite)

the locked down armor is basically the invincible part

 

also her attacks are awkward atm. so hitting an enemy is kinda hard at times.

 

 

when they give her parry, and make the attacks less awkward, THEN they can consider replacing invincibility with a vamperic life drain level ability.

 

 

but they might have a vampire class frame planned

I could see Valkyr's ultimate being tweaked to the OP's suggestion; it sounds fun.

 

The life leech and red-glow field could be removed to accommodate. Also, I'm pretty sure new attack animations would have to be included with this, so it's not like that wouldn't happen if Valkyr was re-worked.

The suggestion does make Valkyr more attractive; I feel like her ultimate is a forsaken, clunky, handicapped invincibility mode currently, we don't have to keep it that way.
