Because it's a colour a lot people will want to use, therefore making it a good money-earner to require purchase without effecting gameplay.

There's not even a pay option for the color black.  Also, this being a ninja game, black will be the most popular color ever.  So once they introduce a palette that actually has black, it's going to sell like hotcakes.

But yes. No black. Just dark grey, dark red and dark blue. In every palette available.

Because, in case you haven't noticed, this game is very, very dark (as in low-light). There's no other way at present to tell what frame your team mates in a pug are riding without looking at them, and having everyone be black (if there is a black paint, EVERYONE will be black) makes the frame's sillouette harder to read, so you wouldn't be able to neccesarily tell if that's a Nyx that's about to drop her ult and decimate everything, or an excalibur that's getting dunked and needs help.

 

Of course, they could fix that by just putting nameplates over ally's heads, with thier names, what frame they're riding, and an HP/shield bar.
