When you are spotted and they activate the alarm, there should be a way to bring everything back to the zero state. When cleaned the waves of enemies and we go into the next room, only enemies that attack in melee resume their patrol activity. Enemy that attack at distance seems to see you arrive through walls and shoot you at 200m to the first pixel of you that is beyond (melee spot you at first pixel too...). That kill the gameplay when you love to play stealth...

In short: Melee ennemies do it fine (except spot after alarm). Ranged wait for you as if they know where you are all the time.
