Overwatch / Lotus Mode. Open Ended Maps.

Armored Core series has this thing called the Operator or somewhat. Basically, the team consists of four pilots who go in and do the mission, while a fifth member stays at base, and over watches the field. The operator can drop in supplies, support strikes, and mark locations of where to go.

Now, how can this possibly ever work its way into Warframe?

Well, the maps are pretty linear, to be honest. Sure, you can go up and down some levels, but let's face it. All fanboy feelings aside, you could just as well make the maps a straight line. Sure, you can wall run and wall climb, and teleport, and wall breach, but that's not enough.

How about a big map, where there's two/three main objectives, Starting Point A, Objective A, and Extraction Zone. Then you can dot the map with optional objectives, like Secure the Ammo Cache, eliminate the power generator, rescue some POWs that can then help you in boss fights (make them expendable, please), etc.

Here, something like this:

Now, this could be in regular missions, or only in special (clan) missions, but hey, this could bring in some elements of tower defense into the game. The operator can drop in health, auto-turrets, or even captured enemies of different factions. Hell, if you're up for it, drop in a Metal Gear Rex or something. Maybe even vehicles. Or giant roller balls.

Take a hint from Bad Company 2. One of the most fun campaign games I've played for a shooter game. Good dialogue, awesome freedom of choice for the maps, and just good fun exploring around, finding easter eggs, really, all you need to do to make this game more fun is to have open-ended maps. You can scratch the whole Lotus mode thing, if that's too much work.

tl;dr

Just have some open ended maps.
