Chat Clone Bug.

This bug...

I see it a lot on other people but this is the first time happening to me.

Tried friending my clone but user did not exist

This is not caused by the game's profiling system so much as it is an inherent flaw within IRC, which their chat is directly based on. DE's profile system is still working just fine, as you noticed when trying to add your clone. Because they really do not exist.

 

What happened is, you disconnected from IRC chat without telling the Chat server that you were disconnecting, so the IRC server assumes you are still online. Then, you reconnect to IRC, which recognises that your username is already in use, and assigns you a new name. Your actual name, becomes a "Ghost" username, which just idles in the names list of the IRC channel until the server realises it hasn't communicated with this user in some time, and times them out, removing them from the list.

 

I believe the time it takes for the Server to check connections can be easily changed, but I suppose it's a balancing act between checking the status of 10k concurrent users at a regular interval and not using too many resources to keep it up to date.
