ServareVitas
So there's this really hot piece of &#! that's just moved in across the street and is always walking around topless It's my fathers birthday in a weeks time and he's always been a mega nerd like myself with regards to the solar system. He's increasingly taking solo hiking/camping trips out of the city onto the moors where there is very little light pollution. I've been wondering just how expensive is it to get a fairly decent beginners telescope for viewing planets and constellations etc. From what I've read the magnification for beginners can start at x20 which seems really low to me but I can't seem to find much information on lens width. I know typically the wider the lens the more light you'll let in (which is obviously good for night time) but honestly have no idea what kind of minimum would be adequate. Any hobby astronomers about? I'm wondering if it can be enjoyed with a piece of kit for under £100.
