A Compromise: Low-Profile Missions

If DE wants us to grind materials for our blueprints, then the thread about aborting a mission raises a good point: what if all you need is a little extra alloy plate, which you find within five minutes of starting your mission? It can be a pain to fight through the eventual droves of soldiers you'll be forced to fight.

That said, once you've snuck past a ship's security, it'd be a little ridiculous to just tell the Lotus 'never mind,' so maybe aborting isn't the answer either. So in that case, what about landing in a city/on a ship without any special mission in mind? You can search for loot, practice/show off your parkour and melee combos or just check out the scenery, then return to your shuttle whenever you're done.

By being able to acquire mats this way, you'd appease at least one type of rusher, giving them more reason to meet explorers halfway. It would also let us test new control scheme options, get used to new weapons, and show the game off to our friends without becoming embroiled in a half hour-long struggle.

On a related note, it's stupid that bosses have this drop rate mechanic for vital materials. The first time I killed Vor, when I supposedly had a guarantee that he'd drop a BP, my squad was so far ahead of me that I had no idea anything even dropped. By the time I killed him myself, nothing at all showed up.

Does he have the BPs or doesn't he? Leaving it to chance is a cheap excuse to make us play a mission until we're sick of it, just like World of Warcraft telling us to gather bear legs...and then giving us ten bears in a row that apparently don't actually have legs. Pay no attention to their character model, it's all an illusion.
