Game Running Slower

I've been playing this since update 5 or 6 and I loved it. The gameplay is awesome, loving the new void system and dojo system and it's pretty sweet. But my only issue is that ever since update 8 hit, the game has been going extremely slow for me now. It usually runs at a playable speed but as soon as the alarm goes off onboard a ship or if I enter the void my FPS drops between 2-10 FPS and it gets frustrating. It's even worse when I'm hosting an online game but it's always been like that for me. Don't suppose a few things could be toned down could they or at least give us the option to tweak some more settings so us players with not as good computers will be able to play a little better.
