Here is an Interesting Theory

One that I've been rolling around in my head since I was a child, only to find out there is scientific (albeit argued against and needs much more proof to be confirmed) evidence to push this theory in the right direction.

First, some links: http://www.academia.edu/10288975/EVIDENCE_MICROTUBULES_CAUSE_LIFE_AFTER_DEATH

http://mappingignorance.org/2015/06/17/on-the-quantum-theory-of-consciousness/

To put it simply, parts of our brain are theorized to operate on a quantum level, meaning that it can compute information at such a rapid speed that the idea of consciousness is formed. It also means that there is a failsafe in our brains that basically says that when we die, the computations become "clearer" for lack of a better way to say it, and we are put into "heaven" to cope with our death. However, because of the nature of the computations, time ceases to exist, so no matter how quickly you die, your brain will make you perceive that your in "heaven" permanently (this is the part that's mostly conjecture). This means that life after death actually doesn't exist, and is life right before death, but appears to be after death.

It's just a theory, but it's one that's fun to think about for sure.

Another one worth looking up (but I won't go into detail in) is that these microtubules are antennae for a collective universal consciousness that operates on an impossibly high frequency that only our brains are able to pick up at the moment.
