So how about a defense mode with no defense objective that offered an unending stream of enemies instead of waves. This would allow the team to run around more freely (only having to protect themselves) and would offer intense situations where someone drops and the whole team has to rally on their location to get them back up.

 

Ideally, I would like to see all factions spawn in this mode concurrently. You could have different people on your team be specialized in killing different factions (especially with the new Bane/Cleanse/Smite mods). Then an ally could let you know, "Grineer group just spawned on south end of map! Armor piercers, get over there!" or "Oh crap, our Ember just died, anyone left to handle Infested?"

 

I think there should be two objectives:

 

1. Time Limit: Lotus can arrange extraction after 10 minutes if the team all goes to the extraction point (ex: former cryopod location). This gets you out alive, with whatever rewards you've amassed.

 

2. Extermination: Wiping out all the enemies. Total Extermination of the enemies should take longer than 10 minutes and will net you some extra reward. Unlike defense waves, the team can choose to pull out whenever it starts to get too rough.

 

Defense could still have unique mod rewards for completing 5 waves, this mode would more be for RAW CARNAGE.

New faction that doesn't actually fight. They capture other factions to satisfy their Arena/Gladiator culture. Tenno get lured in for a mission, only to get trapped and forced to fight the masses of captured Grineer, Infested, and Corpus.

Heh, it would be kind of like an arena brawl. The key is to offer overwhelming enemy forces.
