Think for a minute. What if the scanner was actually something built into the helmet that you could toggle off and on from the inventory menu with a push of a button?

There could be different modes of vision such as:

Night Vision

Heat Vision

Scanning Mode

Heart beat sensor if you really feel compelled to be that cool.

a video to drive the point home.

night vision could probably be grouped with heat vision

Something like this would be awesome for seeing where enemies patrol when you're trying to do a mission that requires stealth such as capture 2.0

Scanning should be a one time only affair that you should have to do. Once its scanned its logged and you don't have to worry about it anymore. Maybe have scanning mode show where previously scanned enemies default weaknesses are located. One big cool thing that could come from doing all of this is an overall improvement of stealth and the ability to  give infested an even more scary feel as you probably wouldn't have your weird phantom flashlight to light your way.

Evironmental effects on these systems.

Hot locations could make the heat part of this less viable.

Cold locations could make this more or less viable? not entirely sure

Rainy locations could make foot prints disappear quickly or not even appear entirely.

Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Heat vision seems nice, but it can be put together with night-vision, like this :

This is called Nano-vision, and turns everything into heat detecting and works in the dark because it grey-scales everything. A feature that it does not include is seeing enemies through walls, however we can include that for our version. I wish the 'Climate Changes' are more 'forecast-able', so like for Corpus we have a constant cold-temperature map.
