The Sad Tale Of The Synapse

Synapse was restless. It had become uncomfortable in its role. Ever since it had been born in Volt's foundry out of an amalgamation of Infested bodyparts and Tenno technology, it had enjoyed killing, but it felt something was missing. It was frustrated that it could only kill one person at a time. It knew it was destined for greatness, but didn't know how it could become a perfect killer, able to kill a whole roomful of people at once. Until the day Volt teamed up with Ember.

In Ember's hands was a contraption that spewed forth a flame like nothing Synapse had ever seen. It incinerated its targets even as it roared through them, eager for its next prey. Ember's weapon did not bother with single targets, but charred all in its presence in a blink. Synapse reverently asked the machine its name, and it seemed to whisper back... 'Ignis'...

Synapse had to know where Ignis came from. It learned that the incredible flamethrower was created from Grineer technology. So it beseeched the Grineer for help. It wanted them to make it into a weapon that could kill as casually, on such a scale, as Ignis could. But it did not know that Grineer weapons technology was as imperfect as their cloning.

The Grineer weapon techs experimented with Synapse. Perhaps if they could create something new and drastic using technology from Tenno, Orokin, Infested and Grineer sources, they would become as famous and respected as the great Tyl Regor! Unfortunately, their ambition exceeded their skill. Synapse ended up mangled and broken, the Grineer techs shook their heads and moved onto their next big gambit, and Synapse was thrown in the garbage.

There it was found by a scavenger/merchant named Darvo, who often rifled through Grineer and Corpus garbage in the hope of finding anything saleable to those chumps, the Tenno. They would buy just about anything he could offer - no matter how worthless it was - in the name of something they called 'Mastery Fodder'.

Synapse didn't want to go back to the Tenno. It was too ashamed to be seen by Volt in its current state - ashamed that it had run off to chase a power fantasy when it did a huge amount of damage already. It pleaded with Darvo to take it to the Corpus, in the hope that they could succeed where the Grineer failed. Maybe then it could show its 'face' around the Tenno again.

A Corpus Tech who was an enthusiast in both the potential of the Infested and television from the pre-Orokin human civilization bought Synapse, uttering the cryptic words "We can rebuild him. We have the technology to build the world's first bionic gun. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster." The Tech replaced several of Synapse's components with electronic counterparts and wired it into a Corpus-made casing. Synapse had become a horribly inefficient mashup of Infested, Grineer and Corpus technology. Caught somewhere between a Synapse and the Ignis it desired, it could now spray several beams of lightning - but most of them did nothing at all; the main beam was weaker than it once had been; the Corpus casing made it harder to access the ammunition reserves; and it grew tired much more quickly. It had become... Amprex.

Embolist had very different views to its older sibling, Synapse. It was tired of being inaccurate, and wanted to be a thing of precision and elegance. After hearing from Saryn's friend that they had supposedly killed a Corpus Tech wielding a Synapse-like weapon, Embolist was inspired. It was aroused by Corpus weapon design where other Infested weapons had never done anything for it.

It asked Saryn how it could meet the best Corpus weaponeers, and Saryn gave Embolist to Mag. Mag enlisted the help of Frohd Bek's weaponsmith, Alad V's fashion consultant, and Cephalon Suda. Together they were able to turn Embolist into a fully cybernetic weapon capable of firing a precision laser.

Suda felt that it could do better without relying on Infested technology, and secretly used the plans to create a better version with a portion of its own programming in place of the Infested brain. It named the weapon 'Synoid', knowing that only the poor former Embolist would ever understand the cruel joke ('Syn-' from 'Synapse', and '-oid' meaning 'similar to'), and paraded it in front of the Tenno to turn them away from its Infested-loving enemies, the New Loka.

Tl;dr It sucks to be an Infested weapon, Gammacor never had a chance before it was completely overshadowed by Synoid, and Synapse>Amprex 4lyfe

I feel for that Synapse and all, but I think that the Gammacor has it harder. It didn't even get a second in the spotlight.

(I wonder if the Amprex was meant to be thought of as some kinda Corpus shotgun. cause the Detron does'nt fill that role very well)
