Greetings!
I am not a complete newbie anymore, but neither a pro yet, and that's the thing that prevents from finding the answer myself. The question is, which one of the three starting frames should a newbie pick at character creation? I personally need the guide to link my friends to it when their mind is finally hijacked and I have made them download the game.
Yes, there are a lot of guides over there, but most of them share one or more of the following problems.
Usually, the guide...
- ...is outdated: provides an overview of a frame as it was long ago, e.g. still speaks about the Shield Polarize Mag or even GMag.
- ...has a lot of "water" inside it -- words that add nothing, but eat newbies' attention. The newbies have just downloaded the game, and they are stuck with the very first choice! They don't have the whole day!
- ...draws no conclusion: it doesn't actually say how to choose a starting frame, just provides an overview.
- ... focuses on high-level gameplay, a place where the newbie will be way later, if ever, especially if he/she makes a choice based on high-level gameplay.
- ...doesn't say what does the frame player actually do, especially considering the very first adventures.
- ...ses a lot of game terms, which the newbie definitely doesn't know yet.
So, I would be thanking very much the people who could provide an actual instruction on selecting the starting Warframe.
In my personal opinion, the guide should focus on the following points, sorted by the importance descending:
- What does this Warframe do at low-level game play, where the only mods available are Damaged and/or low-ranked?
- How well does the frame perform at low-level gameplay compared to the other two?
- What happens when transitioning to mid-level play, where enemies become reasonably stronger and mods start to be available? What does the frame do, how does it perform?
- How hard is it to get this warframe if you don't choose it?
- Does the answer change if the newbie gets some extra plat to spend?
The ideal guide could touch the topic of high-level gameplay, but it should definitely not be the focus. The ideal guide would also avoid using game terms when they aren't really needed, and when they are, explain them.
I also don't think that a guide on choosing the weapons is needed, as all of the starting weapons are very easy to get, and actually thrown away pretty soon anyway.
Thanks in advance for your effort!

If your first kid is a girl, call her Mag. Please.

I see a problem here, no matter how fair the ban was.
The accused should have an opportunity to at least know what is "suspicious".

Just adding my practical experiences into the equation since the couple of hours we deployed.
Did Sortie 1 with a random group on Public matchmaking:
Group composition was Atlas, Volt, Excal, and me as Mag Prime with a Strength/Range build.
More playing to follow, but she still holds her own and then some in this mission example. The problem is that we loved old Mag and just didn't want changes to the concept -- the old concept is gone, and we miss it.
Even if she becomes more powerful now, it is essentially another frame.
Best regards.

I don't like the new update because it made an actually OP frame useless. You don't need here for non-toptier missions, and you can't really use here out of star chart. Not useless frame, but others will just perform better.
Not even a good medic now, I think.

I am not a very experienced player, but I am around for a long time already. I started out with Mag, she was my favourite frame due to her concept even when I was a noob without minmaxed equipment.
She was very situational, but I liked being able to be useful in high-level missions. You still had to deal with nullifiers, think when to cast her ability and when to wait for more enemies to come, etc, so it was actually interesting, and there were (and are) a lot more unbalanced frames, also with infinite scaling or just powerful enough to be strong against level 150 units. Moreover, there was no thing as "trash-tier" frame, every experienced player was always saying that everything depends on the situation and proper build/usage.
Her other abilities actually had a use too. A good thing was that even without a build (while still a noob with no mods) you could make use of her abilities, but even more situationally. Like use Pull to stagger, Bullet Attractor to kill a tanky target, etc.
Now you can't. Now welcome the New Mag, the first trash-tier frame in the game, at least since like spring 2015. Useless for everything. Hope someone reads this. Even Oberon isn't that bad and actually playable if you like the concept, Mag is not.
The worst thing is that even though I want this update reversed, I actually pretty much believe that it is not going to happen. But can I still hope?..
Best regards,
a Mag fan.
There is a little story behind that plot, read it if you want. :3
My girlfriend couldn't pass the last part of the Vor's Prize quest and died so many times to him, watching the cutscene with Vor saying "What a waste..." hundreds of times and taking hundreds of attempts to kill him... I was watching her, occasionally giving her some advice, but in order to get it less boring, I started to parody it and play with the phrase, claiming that Captain Vor just praises Mag’s waist. Which resulted in “What a waist!” being our catchphrase now. As the box was primarily a present for me, it’s on the box. :)

Is this still up to date?

In Limbo Theorem, the first transmission you get has subtitles that are late (in English).

Hello! I am a fan of support classes in all games, and I also am a fan of using support classes in melee due to their ability to quickly recover from damage or mitigate it.
Moreover, with Trinity most of the time I find my self with a damn huge quantity of unneeded energy I don't have anything to spend on. So, I decided to make this build. It is based on using melee weapons in channeling. Which weapon is not that important, since it's a fan build anyway, but I would assume that it will depend on your actual energy economy.
Strategy is to cast Link, EV some linked guy, bullet jump to him, kill him, EV next guy, kill him, etc. Use Blessing when you lose health. And SLASHDASHCUTCHOPPYCHOPCHOP, aye, for the sake of chopchopping!
Any advice will be appreciated.

Well, Warframe is officially still in beta. So it's not too late yet to make a complete overhaul of everything and get rid of what you speak of and the power creep.
-
As simple as it is. Lots of times I find Prime less visually attractive than normal item, but Prime is better and, sometimes, easier to get (as a noob I just bought Boltor Prime and Soma Prime for plat, which was easier for me than crafting normal Soma or Boltor).
Please, make it possible to just copy non-Prime appearance on Prime stuff, just like you can equip non-Prime helmet on a Prime warframe.

I can understand the use of Natural Talent, especially if relying on Frost for defence and EV on energy.
But Overextended 1) Lowers damage, making it possible to damage an enemy, while leaving him alive and without shields. 2) Increases range, affecting enemies before they get in tight groups, not needed with Speed Nova.
-
If using Drift mods, I would use a team with Coaction Drift and 3 Corrosive Projections to still remove enemy armour completely and have a free aura slot.
-
Auras: 4x Corrosive Projection
Frames: Snowglobe Frost (ranged protection), Speed Nova (debuff and lower farming time), EV Trinity (energy, blessing as panic button), Mag (spamming SP)
For Nullifiers there are rapid-firing guns.
Any notes?

How do I get it during the event? I beat Kela lots of times, but she doesn't seem to drop the Nav segment...
-
Not working cuz MSVCP120D.dll is missing... Could you probably do it in a Google Sheet?
-
Where is the damn link?

The idea is awesome. However, you need to be more specific.
-
I have an improvement to your suggestions.
A "Formaed" slot must be a slot of new polarity type, which accepts any kind of polarity just as if it would fit it. So you can freely forma everything and get as many build designs as possible.

This sounds like the engineer from TF2. I like the idea but maybe tweak it a bit so it doesn't sound like you are copying another game's idea.
Yes, true, this concept is highly based on TF-series Engi. But there are very few class/ability designs, you can't limit things to what you make by only your own brain.
I'm have not looked at the concept yet, but if there are mobile turrets involved, I'm not gonna like it.
EDIT :
Yep as I thought, Turrets.
Do people have that little sense to keep coming up with this sort of idea when Mesa's Sentry gun mode has just been tweaked to discourage that sort of gameplay?
And yu want a Warframe that is basically designed to AFK?
Yes, I understand that we have to have something to prevent AFK farming. What can help:3.1. Making the Engi to actively support the turret, like the engi from Team Fortress Classic can't leave his nest (or it gets destroyed by almost any class)3.2. Making him to recast the ability by limiting the turret's lifetime, or the amount of shots it can fire or something else.3.3. Some other thing you can find. -
Interesting concept but...
Voobans our engineer and we're hoping a change to bounce will make him more engineery
Sadly yes, Booben is our tactical engineer themed warframe already. Also, I'm tired of Engineer concepts being shoehorned into turrets.
Vauban is already an engineer.
Vauban is the engineer. He is based off of Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban who was a military engineer. Besides, DE already gave Vauban the title "The engineer"
Yes, I know that Vauban is presented as an engineer, but the problem is that by game design he is a lot closer to a trapper.
-
Ye, a trapper, not an engineer.
BTW, reserved for further additions if needed.

Meet my first Warframe concept, the Engineer! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NsSFts-HHt7FzOVIuScChZ7PWx0gzzZS5evApwQ7iHI/edit?usp=sharingJust to mention it, please, prepare for:1) This warframe never being released. Discuss it purely for fun and for the sake of game design. :)2) The content of this document changing a lot, as the concept isn’t finished yet.Content in italic has a double probability of being changed and triple probability to leave the concept.Right after we come up with the basic points of the concept done, at least the visual parts of it, my girlfriend (she also plays this addictive S#&$) will draw some concept art that will appear in this thread.Waiting for your comments. :)UPD1 (4.11.2015):1) Yes, I know that Vauban is presented as an engineer, but the problem is that by game design he is a lot closer to a trapper.2) Yes, this concept is highly based on TF-series engi. So, which warframe is really the best for a newbie?

Perhaps it is. But why? How is it way better than, say, Volt?
