  1. Here is a long overdue update.

I apologise as I blame this on both me feeling self-contious about my non-adult art and my self-contiousness towards my own design work in comparison to other fanart and fanframes.

Since I drew those early concepts of the original post, I always wanted to draw them in a bigger scale with more details. I have made a bunch of sheets as a Character Study personal project (featuring design evolution as I use for the project and designs inspired by artists that influenced my art) that I've been working on sparingly over the last 2 years that I just shared with some friends.

So here is a small comparison image I meshed up just now.

    garra_warframe_design_comparison__previe

This features the original character design that was the basis of the other two (Garra 2010 Design), the design following the concept doodles made on paper (Warframe Design-A) and the design following the 3d model mockup I did (Warframe Design-B).

As I felt Design-A was a tad too much like Guyver in design and not as organic with more excentric shapes and silhouettes as Warframe art direction usually goes for, I decided to invest more detail into Design-B (also cuz I like Guyver and Design-A to keep it).

So, all in all, Design-B would be the proper dedicated warframe design aesthetics version of my hero character.

PS: I signed "2015" as it is when I made this comparison image. The 3 full frontal designs were started in 2013 and concluded in different periods of 2014.

  2. I have been having this issue for several updates and just now figured I'd try and make a post about it since it is percistent. I had never made a post in the forum before outside the fanart section.

So my issue is as follows:

I have a wired usb xbox 360 controller, I bought it specifically to play warframe in a more agile way.

The drivers are installed ok, I connect it fine, warframe starts and I can control it ok. I start a mission and all controls are working...

Until I try firing a weapon with the right trigger.

The game just freezes before the shot is made. I tried waiting, but the game just stays frozen forever.

The weird thing is that when I unplug the controller off the usb port, while the game is frozen, the game immediately unfreezes and the shot is fired. I even connect the controller back in the usb and it functions perfectly, until I try taking another shot and it freezes again, only to unfreeze and shoot when I unplug again.

That happens with both primary and secondary weapon fire.

I just tried using melee with the controller plugged in and it works fine. Both quick melee and full selected melee with the right trigger being used for blocking. No freezing.

It seems to be specifically freezing whenever the right trigger is used to fire the primary and secondary weapons.

The controller works fine for all other games I have installed.

I really don't know what to do about this besides not using the controller at all.

  3. I think it would be cool if we could hack a terminal to "erase or hide" our signature from the enemy sensors.

Would get enemies on "suspicious" state in stead of alert and would allow us to do stealth attacks once again.

Like, we should be able to do such a thing in a cleared room with no enemies witnessing it.

  4. I enjoy taking pictures of Warframe, A LOT.

Diaramas, Lore, Gameplay, Poses, Animations, Weapons, Color schemes... You name it!

But I'm specially fond of taking pictures of the Warframes kneeling in the holoroom at the title screen right before the title and menus pop in.

    Like so.

    230410_2013-09-07_00001.png

The warframes look very badass and I adore using these as background images on my mobile devices (iPad, iPhone and PSVita).

As after an update, the game started to randomly loads Lore Dioramas for variety and it kind of got difficult for me to take such pictures whenever I get new helmets or review the color schemes of my frames.

The dioramas are awesome, but I'm still quite fond of seeing the Warframes kneeling in front of my screen as if they were waiting for me to give the order to move.

I'd like to know if there will ever be a way to cycle through the dioramas in the title screen or if we'll be able to hide the title menu.

If any consideration is given to this thought, my suggestion would be as follows:

    - A key could be assigned to cycle through the dioramas in the Title Screen.

    - A key could be assigned to hide the Menu (title, exit icon, login & password) for full, unobstructed view.

    - A key could be assigned to the map screen so the camera would close up on the warframe kneeling and hiding the menus. (Would be cool if we could rotate the camera around the warframe while in this mode)

    - The game could go to "stand-by mode" after a moment of inactivity after logging in, while in the map screen, hidding the menus.

I'm aware it sounds like a silly request, but it would still be very appreciated to have such liberty as the visuals of the game are immensely enjoyable.

Every time I get something new in the game, I make a photoshoot of it. Each Warframe (with each helmet) in Mission Dioramas, Lore Dioramas, several angles of weapons in holding positions... I even get close to walls to take pictures of details in the helmets.

I'm a designer and amateur artist, I'm quite familiar and interested in the passion and hard work invested on visual design and I'm a bit obsessive when it comes to capturing detail.

    Doesn't hurt to ask, tho.

Lastly I'd like to thank and praise all of the production crew on the amazing job on this project! And it's incredibly commendable how all of the development team keep on pumping the game full of new content every month and constantly fix whatever bug shows up!

    Many thanks for the attention!

    FRP "Claw"

PS: I'm not sure if this belongs in the UI feedback section or Gameplay as this is relevant to on the game's interactive in-game graphics as it is to the initial interface.

PPS: While I'm here, I could go ahead and ask if we'll be able to zoom in while editing colors on the frames and weapons. The game has so many details and sometimes a certain color slot influences a small decal on the weapon and it's very hard to properly see it. XD

  5. We need this. It would go perfectly with the scarves.

I actually have a hero character inspired by Kamen Rider who I developed for a college Video assignment.

The title is rather simple as the production dictated that it was to be a small short.

While others did crazy deep art stuff nobody really understood. I did TOKUSATSU!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDSf4Wj5XaQ'>The Crimson Scarf!

I've been considering making a model of him.

Can't wait about them scarves! They became high on symbolism for both my passion for Shotaro Ishinomori and my own production on personal heroes. (I also cosplay as Strider Hiryu in Anime Conventions XD)

  6. Very good use of a first post. I really like the fact that you explained the whole backstory to the art and showed the process of creating the character.

Might I say that I find it hard to believe that you've never done anything with 3D before. It looks quite fantastic, even without color.

I hope that you continue to design more frames in the future, both artistically and statistically.

Your reply fills my eyes with glee.

I'm flattered and humbled. For my 3d skills are below basic. I'm just a design student adventuring into programs with amateuristic curiosity and doing what he can to express ideas in as many medias as I can touch.

So far I have no idea how to clean and color the models in blender or zbrush. I'm an illustrator and my artistic talent is focused on lineart and character design.

I can adapt more of my projects characters into warframes, If it would interest my apparent new fans.

I share lots of love for this game as it pushes all my buttons in terms of gameplay, art direction, design and even believe we share influences.

  7. The evolution of the design (the original cartoony style into the warframe style) is actually pretty impressive.

    Thanks!

The character itself was involved in several metamorphosis as I tried finding a proper style for the project I wanted. The final approach to the project style happened after I studied Keita Amemiya's style and tried making my villains in his style. I loved it and they became more exotic and interesting. Funny enough. I believe that each of the characters from my project can be adapted into warframes without many changes.

Would it interest you forum goers if I did such adaptations in pencil and 3D? Just for the fun of it?

  8. Impressive. Actually looks pretty nice. You are talented my friend!

The skills don't seem too shabby either.

Many thanks KingKeif! Thank you for the very kind words!

I was feeling so nervous about posting this here. But I'm glad that the response is positive so far. n_n

  9. Hello there, fellow tenno!

This is my first post and I've been crazy about the games design and art direction since I first laid eyes on it.

I have this Japanese tokusatsu hero inspired character from a personal comic project.

His name is Garra, portuguese for "Claw", and he's basically my personal Kamen Rider and the project reflects my passion for japanese heroes.

The Warframes design also reminds me a lot of one of my favorite Tokusatsu designers and influences, Keita Amemiya, famous for movies, tv shows and anime such as: Iria, Zeiram, Hakaider, Mirai Ninja, Hagane (snes game), Jiban, Jetman, Kamen Rider ZO, Kamen Rider J, and Garo. (it's all worth a google search)

After playing Warframe every day since it became open-beta, I did several doodles adapting my character into the warframe design.

A month ago, I got an iPad and I've been fiddling with design apps. Among them, 123D Sculpt, and I've tried skulpting my character. But it started to become more and more organic and exotic. Mid-way through, I decided to make it his warframe design.

It turned out different from the concept art I did, but that's mostly cuz I started to really like the shapes I was experimenting.

    3D Model Turnaround:

This was my first attempt at anything 3D, so I haven't really figured out a way to clean the model, refine the shapes with more detail or even texture it. But I'm very happy with how the model turned out, non-the-less.

I've had all these on my Deviant Art gallery for a while now, but always felt a bit shy about showing it off in the forums.

I imagine this fits better in the "Fan Art" section as it's an adaptation of a personal original character and I never designed him to properly work in-game. I just imagine him as a frame catered to my mainly solo playstyle.

Talking with my fellow clan members, I came up with his skill-set and stats.

I did this for the heck of it and by any means is made to properly be official. Just my personal preference regarding the character atributes from the original project and my playstyle. Most skills are basically skills that other frames already have, but with a different flare.

    Warframe Garra

    Stats:
    Health - 75 (200) lv30
    Shield - 150 (450) lv30
    Energy - 100 (200) lv30
    Armor - 10
    Sprint Speed - 1.25

    Alternative Helmet 1 - Reactor
    +25% Energy
    -5% Shield

    Alternative Helmet 2 - Berserk
    +25% Armor
    -5% Stamina

    Loadout:
    Gorgon/Lex/Kogake

Skill 1: Power Punch (25 en)
Garra delivers a flurry of punches at an amazing speed, finishing with a charged straight punch, launching the enemy back with massive damage. The defeated enemy body can damage enemies directly behind it.
Upgrade: Increases damage of each punch and flight distance of the enemy body.

Skill 2: Hyper Mode (50 en)
By concentrating his energy, Garra's body glows and leaves afterimages on his path. Damage resistance, movement speed and firerate of all weapons are enhanced for the active duration of the skill.
Upgrade: Increases duration time (7/9/11/13s) and damage resistance percentage (30/45/60/75%).

Skill 3: Flying Kick (50 en)
Garra launches forward in a flying kick attack at the lenght of 10 meters delivering increased critical damage onto enemies in his path (Like Slash Dash). Can be activated mid-air, allowing the skill to be aimed in different angles. If the kick hits a surface (ground, wall, boss) the impact converts damage into an AoE energy explosion causing damage in a limited radius.
Upgrade: Effective distance increase and of AoE.

    Skill 4: Fallout (100 en)
Garra concentrates energy and overrides all energy safeguards resulting in it's body becoming irradiated and exhaust energy fumes from his back jets. He then crouches and violently punches the ground releasing energy pulses from his body. Each pulse reaches further than the last pulse. Enemies within range get paralized and receive damage from each pulse, irradiating them and making them glow and release irradiated particles until they're finally vaporized by the most damaging final pulse. Surviving enemies get blown back.
Upgrade: Increases pulse damage, number of pulses and, in turn, effective area.

Edit: Better links and image exposure.

    26/05/15 edit:

Compiled a comparison image of a personal design study personal project.
