  1. Thanks! I never thought to check there. ^_^;

Assuming that "Solar Map XP" really means "Solar Map Mastery", it appears the entire star chart is worth 14803 mastery points. I did the math, and determined that I received about 60k mastery points when I first logged in after update 11. If each Sentinel is worth 6000 mastery points, and each Sentinel weapon is worth 3000 mastery points, then the numbers line up almost exactly.

I guess I received mastery points for maxed out Sentinels/Sentinel weapons retroactively upon logging into the game for the first time after Update 11 went live. It would seem that completing a mission with a maxed out Sentinel/Sentinel weapon is not necessary. At least that's how it appears to have worked for me. Unless there's another source of Mastery that I'm unaware of, that's the only conclusion I can reach.

    Can anyone else confirm this?

  2. I've experienced this as well. Completing missions with my maxed sentinels/sentinel weapons does not appear to retroactively award any mastery. Since I've already completed the entire star chart, I received a significant amount of mastery the first time I logged in after Update 11, and I suppose it's possible that the mastery points for my sentinel/sentinel weapons were included in that. Does anyone know how much mastery a completed star chart is worth? If I knew the exact number, I could easily do the math and figure out whether or not that's the case.

In any case, I would love clarification on this issue as well.

  3. I absolutely love the new survival missions, but I can understand why you prefer the old ones. They were a great source of exp, mods, and resources. On that note, I'm actually kinda glad they were reworked. Admit it, if they had added survival to the game exactly as it was during the event, we'd never play anything else!

That said, I wouldn't be opposed to seeing the old ones return in a limited fashion, such as occasional alert missions. Heck, I wouldn't mind seeing the Corpus Void and Raid missions return as occasional alert missions either.

  4. I have a question about the Sound Design in Warframe. I've noticed that the Grineer sound very different (and much better!) in the more recent content you've released. Specifically, the new and improved Lech Kril as well as most of the Grineer in the PS4 announcement trailer seem to be using a new language that sounds far more elegant than the typical marine-speak and bestial grunts that the rest of the Grineer use. Are there any plans to update the rest of the Grineer voices in the game to use the same language? Also, is it a real (i.e. functional) language or is it just random (albeit graceful) gibberish?

  5. Your Grineer voices are great, but I think the Devs are planning/preparing a major overhaul of all the Grineer voices in the game. The newest Grineer additions to the game like the revamped Lech Kril and the PS4 announcement trailer seem to be using an imaginary (and pretty cool sounding) new language, and I can only assume that the Devs will eventually change most of the basic Grineer voices to match.

Your take on the Stalker is fan-freaking-tastic. You, sir, owe me a new pair of pants. Also, if the Oracle is any indication, then the Tenno probably speak English themselves. Since the Stalker appears to be a Tenno traitor (more or less), it would make perfect sense for him to speak English as well. I seriously hope that the Devs take that into consideration and take you into consideration for the role.

  6. It does sound interesting, very convenient. Although, it's not very practical seeing as you hone those skills every time you run through a mission.

Specifically, if I wanted to train those skills I'd go into say Earth's defense mission, and only use my primary weapon to "train" and become well acquainted with it.

However, if in this VR system you can amp the difficulty to more than what is offered on the field and allow it go against maybe say miniature bosses at the end, that would be worth looking into. However, there could never be any material reward for accomplishing these feats.

That's a very good point. When you put it like that, the only way to make a VR training room viable (beyond the intra-clan competition it could provide) would be to add some unique feature or features that would be unavailable in normal missions.

What if the VR training room had some sort of weapon rental system that would allow players to try out weapons in the VR training room that they don't actually have yet? Unfortunately, I'm sure a "try before you buy" system would probably be a pain in the rear to implement (not to mention I have no idea how such a system would handle mods), but I can see it giving the VR training room a far more practical purpose.

Adding a variable difficulty is a fantastic idea. I usually roll a Rhino and I would love to crank up enemy levels to see how much punishment my frame can actually take. The concept of "miniture bosses" gives me a whole bunch of ideas for VR specific challenges: Fighting two bosses at once; fighting an actual pack of Hyenas; fighting a buffed version of Nef Anyo that isn't a pushover (seriously, my Wrym can kill that boss).

Regarding material rewards, I completely agree. I personally think the VR training room shouldn't even give experience. That said, however, I could see clan Warlords offering some sort of prize to clan members who manage to break a clan record in a VR challenge or something similar to that. Of course, that's not really necessary to add as a feature, especially since such a thing could be done just as well by the trading system (once it's implemented). Still, it would be cool to have some mod or resource floating on a virtual pedestal to serve as an incentive to improve your score/time on certain VR challenges.

  7. While playing the game with my clan and friends ever since the v8.1.0 hotfix patch, I have experienced a myriad of crashes that seem to occur only when I am hosting a game. My friends have experienced crashes as well under the same circumstances. It seems to occur on a multitude of levels and in a variety of environments, so I cannot narrow down the cause further.

The crash tends to be very frequent. In fact, several times after the first host crashes and a migration occurs, the new host will sometimes crash as well mere minutes later.

Has anyone else been experiencing similar issues?

  8. While there are a lot of "Training Room" suggestions on the forums, I haven't seen any that specifically reference this idea so I figured I'd throw this idea out there and see what everyone thinks.

The Idea: Create a "VR Training Room" for clan dojos that essentially allows you to play Mastery tests over and over again to hone your skills.

The Reason: As it stands, the Mastery tests are a fairly well realized element of Warframe that most players will (usually) only see once. Most of them are fairly unique and some even contain elements that do not exist anywhere else in the game. So why not re-implement them as a training feature accessible through clan dojos?

The Pros: Obviously, a VR Training Room would provide players with a great place to hone their skills. Beyond that, however, it could also easily serve an ancillary purpose as another method of intra-clan competition. It's also possible that a VR Training Room might even encourage new players to find a dojo and get involved with the community. Finally, from a development standpoint, I assume it would simply be easier to modify the Mastery tests that already exist than to create something entirely new from scratch.

The Cons: Most, if not all, of the Mastery tests would need to have most of their failure conditions either removed or reworked, and it would no doubt take a herculean effort from QA to find exploits and bugs. Allowing players to repeatedly train with modified Master tests might also make the real Mastery tests too easy.

I could go on, but this wall of text is big enough already. Thoughts?

  9. When fighting a Grineer Commander, killing the mob just as it casts Switch Teleport on you can interrupt the graphical effects of the ability, resulting in your character maintaining an absurdly high Field of View for the rest of the mission.

  10. Wow, there are a LOT of fantastic suggestions here for alternative ways to re-balance skills affected by the update. Unfortunately, this topic is getting very large very quickly, and at 21 pages, I'm sure a lot of people don't have time to read every single response. Any chance we could get a truncated list of the most prevalent suggestions added it to the OP? That would be a godsend for late-comers like me.

Anyhoo, back to the subject of the Iron Skin nerf. Rather than suggest more alternative solutions though, I'd like to take a moment to pontificate over what I think may be the source of all the drama this issue has caused. It seems that much of the community's anger isn't so much over the fact that Iron Skin was nerfed, but rather the manner in which in which it was nerfed. (At least, most of the coherent anger is anyways ^_^;) Personally, I'm inclined to agree. I feel like the current nerf to Iron Skin was ham-handed at best. I also have a sneaking suspicion as to why, but I'll get to that in a second.

Simply put, damage immunity at a low energy cost was one of the primary aspects of the Rhino that made it so appealing. The best case scenario would be to find a way to re-balance Iron Skin in a way that keeps those two tenants of the ability intact. When you really think about it though, Damage Immunity and Low Energy Cost weren't just the best aspects of Iron Skin; they were the only aspects of Iron Skin. Therefore, an effective solution that appeals to most Rhino users is going to require a bit more creativity and finesse than a simple stat nerf, which brings me to my next point.

The way I see it, any plausible solution to balancing Iron Skin is going to require a reasonable amount of devoted design time and programming voodoo magic. With Update 8 right around the corner, I can only assume that such things are currently excessively precious resources for DE at this time. That said, the best course of action may be to either significantly relax the stat nerf or possibly remove the nerf entirely until DE can spare the time and energy to give this problem the attention it requires. (Then again, maybe the nerf should be left as is. After all, it has triggered significant discourse on the issue.)

Bah! I could drone on but, I think I've spouted enough speculation for now. Bottom line is this: We as the community need to limit the rage, continue to discuss these issues, and eventually organize our collective thoughts into something coherent to make the devs' lives easier when they have time to revisit this issue. Of course, from what I've seen, we seem to be doing just that. Carry on!

  11. I won't lie, when I found out about the nerf, I was furious. Of course, that was mainly because I found out about it the hard way.As it turns out, realizing one of your go-to skills has been re-balanced during an Alert Mission on Hades, one of the most difficult missions (if not THE most difficult mission) possible in the game, is hardly ideal. Also, it didn't help that I thought only to bring my Rhino along with me, figuring that weapon choice wouldn't matter. And yes, I realize how that particular train of thought is a testament to exactly how bad the Rhino needed to be nerfed to begin with.

So yeah, there I was, wading into a group of some of the hardest possible enemies in the game in order to res a teammate while wielding random weak weapons in the hopes of leveling them a bit when I noticed the change. I was NOT a happy camper. In fact, I'm ashamed to say I approached near catastrophic 14-year-old-playing-CoD levels of butthurt rage. I promptly launched into a spirited tirade during which I called into question the intelligence, parentage, and romantic preference of every person currently employed at DE while simultaneously vowing retribution, the methods of which would be violent, creative, and highly disturbing. Not that anyone would have known. Most of my rant was unintelligible at best, and there was an astonishing amount of slobber and spit on my screen afterward.

In the end though, I managed to learn several important things:

    1. Always read patch notes.

    2. Never attempt difficult missions after a patch.

    3. Mute your headset before launching on a tirade because...

    4. ...A great many people tend to find certain invective extremely offensive even when it is mostly unintelligible and not even directed at them to begin with.

Now that I've regained my capacity for rational thought though, I can say that I do still plan on using the Rhino. It's still a good tank, even if it has lost its status as “Catharsis Incarnate” for boss battles. If anything, I'll just be using it, you know, with a scowl from now on.
