  1. Choo Choo!

Hey all, I've seen a couple comments throughout this thread about the backgrounds we've created for the teaser site.

You guys are all awesome and, well, I've gone ahead and made 1920x1200 desktop backgrounds from the vistas seen outside the Liset window throughout the last week for you guys and gals.

    Here's the album: http://imgur.com/a/NlHSy

    Enjoy :)

PS: We're also preparing another fansite kit update, so if there's any requests you guys have for things to see in the kit, feel free to PM me and I'll try to accommodate most (reasonable) requests!

  3. Thank you very much! I've been running with OBS and I agree that it's easy to use, but it seems to have a problem with my Radeon 7870, as my computer always ends up crashing after 10 minutes of streaming (perfect excuse to upgrade to a new Nvidia card).

How bad is the delay as far as picking up the local streams? From a viewers perspective it seems to be about 1.5 - 2 seconds. Is this about right or are you guys just really good at hiding it?

The Delay from the local streams is about what you see on the livestream, usually 1-3 seconds. One of the reasons we switched to OBS on the gameplay machines was because it had a shorter delay than Xsplit.. which was 5-7 seconds in some cases.

We're actually looking at doing a direct HDMI feed from each gameplay machine into our streaming PC using multiple Intensity cards (or another piece of hardware) to completely eliminate that delay, but we will need to do some experiments/tests first before committing to that entirely.

When we did the PS4 stream two weeks back with the Intensity Pro, there was zero delay, and it was great because it also has the HDMI out which we hooked up to our large TV above our stream area, so the girls could still play in real time while we fed it through the card.

  4. Have you ever tried OBS for streaming rather than Xsplit? I'd tried Xsplit and while it was intuitive, I found that OBS ran better and had quite a lot more options for things like encoding, bitstreams, etc. That and I think OBS's hardware acceleration support is a bit better; I know it can use CUDA on GeForce cards and make use of 64-bit processors and OSes.

We have tried OBS on our main machine, one of the earlier Prime Times we gave it a shot and it couldn't handle what we were throwing at it. Even though OBS has a lot of great features for setting up stages, it was either still too new, or just couldn't handle the sheer amount of assets we were loading on each page.. XSplit still has this issue and we've found workarounds to compensate.

The lightweightness of OBS is why we use it on our two gameplay machines.. its so much cleaner, and uses less memory than XSplit (or even Gamecaster) on those machines.. We found that using XSplit and multitasking (like when Rebecca rolls the dice or reads chat) was causing quite a bit of stuttering while streaming locally.

XSplit is still king for us in terms of our final stop before streaming out.. it's well-rounded and once it's loaded with content, still the most stable out of the bunch we've tried.

Can you PM me the settings used on your Black Magic Intensity Pro so that it actually capture the PS4? I've tried everything on my end and it simply refuses to get any sort of signal from the PS4 in HDMI (even with HDCP off and HDCP Device Link On and every conceivable settings I could think of in the Black magic Control Panel)? It works well with PS3, Xbox 360, WiiU and even older consoles but it's simply unresponsive to the PS4 for some reason.

I do mean the Intensity Pro (the PCI-E internal card), not the Intensity Shuttle (the USB 3.0 passthrough device). Got myself an Elgato to capture PS4 but it has a VERY noticeable buffer.

Blackmagic was a headache at first, and what I found is that if you start at the lowest visual settings (NTSC progressive) then work your way up one by one, it will eventually pick i up when you hit 720p at 59.97fps.. make sure your ps4 is set to output at 720p only, though or it won't work... was about an hour of setup before it finally kicked in.. heh.

The PS4 first worked when I set the PS4 to output at 480p, The NTSC progressive setting worked using BM Media Express (but looked like crap, obviously), and then once I knew I could actually SEE the ps4 in 1.7, I set the PS4 to output at 720p, and slowly made my way up before it finally accepted the proper 720p signal.

  5. One day I will write a more in-depth look into our live stream setup, but here's a high overview of what we use:

We run three separate PCs, two for gameplay (as seen on Prime Time), and one for the actual stream out to you guys. The two gameplay machines run Open Broadcaster which is used to capture the gameplay (or MSPaint windows for epic challenges) and stream them locally to our main streaming computer.

Our main machine runs Adobe Media Server (to receive the gameplay streams), XSplit (which is what we use to send out to twitch), and a couple other minor pieces of software to give us some other neat effects (like countdowns, live screenshot challenges and multiple external cameras) that we use every now and again.

When we do PS4 streams (ever since 1.7) we capture directly into a Blackmagic Intensity Pro capture card and bring it directly into XSplit.

We try to keep our stream layouts as modular as possible so we can make changes on the fly (or add other cameras like when DE_Skree sat in on Prime Time last week) while still allowing the whole set-up to look nice when you watch it. We've recently obtained an insanely complex sound board that allows for a lot of inputs, which is amazing to have considering what little hardware we had when we did Livestream #1.

When we first started doing streams (before we had our wireless mics), we used a Zoom H4N to capture audio and ran directly to the line-in of the main streaming PC.. we've definitely come a long way since then.

It's an insane bundle of wires behind the scenes and we're always striving to find ways to make things smoother and stable-er (?). Our setup tends to push XSplit to its limits and we are constantly battling with memory leaks/usage in XSplit when showing off tons of awesome stuff to you guys.

I'll provide a more detailed description of our setup once we get everything kind of where we want it to be.. We're always evolving and making things better, and hopefully that's noticeable while watching week-to-week.

Anyway, if you've got more detailed questions, post them here and I'll be happy to answer them :)

  6. Howdy Deanio!

One question I've always had but never asked you guys: I know you're a pretty big studio, but how many different "hats" does a DE staff member typically wear? In other words, are all DE'ers expected to do more than what their title would suggest?

I can't speak for everyone, but personally I find that there's so much here to be passionate about, that when an opportunity comes to help out in an area other than your own, you tend to jump at the chance because it's incredibly satisfying and fulfilling to do so... that's just me, though :)

  7. I guess I'll start it off, then? :)

Well, I'm Dean ( [DE[superDeanio in game, @SuperDeanio on the tweets ).. Been at DE for three years now, and am a member of our wonderful Marketing team.

While we typically all work together and help each other out on various day-to-day tasks, I'm usually responsible for gathering and organizing fan kit updates (my inbox is always open if you have requests for additions!), helping out behind the scenes on the livestreams, and creating Warframe Profiles and video tutorials.

Between Warren and I, we both handle event imagery, contest images, Tenno reinforcements, and a ton of other stuff to help keep you guys informed about what's going on. We work closely with Rebecca and Megan to support their crazy community antics, and generally have a ton of fun in our little corner of the DE Offices.

As I said above, we have a ton of fun in our group, and are genuinely impressed every week (heck, every day) by the creativity of the Warframe community, and the sheer amount of feedback and support we get from you guys is heartwarming.

  8. can you make it in 1920 x 1200 res please?

aw dat would be very nice

The stalker background (and quite a few more) are in the latest fan kit update in a multitude of sizes (including 1920x1200), found here:

Feel free to PM me if you have any more requests for additions to the fan kit and we will see if it can be added in a future update :)

  9. For those who were curious, here was our Holiday Playlist playing throughout the background in last night's stream:

Paul Mauriat & His Orchestra - Jingle Bells

Leonard Bernstein & The New York Philharmonic - Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy

Kenny G - Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Roger Williams - Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Jacques Duguay - Jolly Old Saint Nicholas

The Ventures - Frosty the Snowman

    Paul Blissett - Winter Wonderland

    Merry Ho-Ho!

  10. Download as Zip doesn't work for me. It always gets stuck somewhere in the middle. I have high speed internet, so waiting more than an hour for one folder sounds odd to me...Had to download each single file separately.

MEGA only supports the "Download as Zip" feature in Chrome, Firefox and Opera. I just tried it out in Chrome and it seemed to work just fine. You may want to double check any browser settings (Javascript, or 'security' level setting) that could be interfering with whatever scripts MEGA uses to enable that feature in your browser.

  11. Hey all!
