Press F to swap back to weapons. Fishing mode has its own gear wheel, separate from your own.

I only have a little extra to add for the "updates" topic.
To be completely honest, most of the time, updates are what keep me coming back. Even if it's just Tenno Reinforcements, I at least log into the game to see the weapon. I might not play too much, but I still think about Warframe more often if I have some kind of new thing to think of uses for. New Weapons, Archwings, and especially Warframes definitely keep me coming back for a long time.

Err.. I've had it done before.. I just contacted support, had to provide a buncha' proof that I am who I say I am/who owns the account, and it was sorted out.

First off, you posted this twice.
Secondly, perhaps your keyboard macro'd "Escape" to do something else.
Thirdly, it's excellent that you found a workaround.
To close, I suggest you act less demanding and elaborate on what you've actually done to explore why "Escape" does not work.

The only time my shields go back up is when I end up reviving.
I'm not sure if shields will be restored if revived by another player, rather than spending a revive. I know Loki is a little squishy, but this is just painful.
