    You probably don't want to use Soma in your example of what not to bring against corpus.  When properly built for crit damage, its base damage is effectively high enough that if you slot for magnetic damage it will still be one of the best weapon options, despite having low innate impact.  This is similar to how in D1.0, even though the soma had no innate armor piercing it still had some of the highest armor piercing DPS.

     

    Basically what I go with for now (still might be tweaking)

    All Soma builds have

    1) Serration

    2) Heavy caliber (shred if you want)

    3) Point Strike

    4) Vital Sense

    5) Hammer Shot

    6) Split Chamber

     

    then for the last 2 slots

    Infected clip + Storm bringer (corrosive for Grineer)

    or

    Stormbringer + Cryo Rounds (magnetic for corpus)

    or

    Hellfire + Wildfire (for infested, might be something better for this one, still playing around)

    First post haha, never knew there was a forum for Warframe out of all these months I've been playing.
     
    My current build is actually like this except I haven't maxed heavy caliber yet. At the moment I'm not sure if I should even max it and whether or not I should take out Hammer Shot because people are telling me it's not worth having.
     
    So here is my current dilemma, I done a test yesterday where I had a 60% Hellfire do more damage to Grineers by rougly 30-40 than Corrosion where I had 2 30% storm and  toxic which added up to 60% and the element damage number was the same as Hellfire(didn't have all the mods in, forma'd so the difference could be really big if I had everything max'd and potatoed). So I don't know where to go with this because the given cheat sheet says both fire and corrosion does 75% more damage when clearly fire did more :S
     
    So at the moment I am not really sure how I should build my Soma. I know for sure the base will be like this:
     
    1) Serration
    2) Heavy caliber <<< Not sure if I should use this
    3) Point Strike
    4) Vital Sense
    5) Hammer Shot <<< Not sure if I should use this
    6) Split Chamber
    7)
    8)
     
    Now the last 2 empty is either combined elements, or just go full out Fire for all factions. Using Hellfire and Wildfire (Kinda want that extra 25 rounds)
    As for Heavy Caliber and Hammer Shot, I'm sure if I should use them or add in mods like Shred, Bane of Grineer/Infested/Corpus, Metal Auger or some other mod.
     
    I'm not really sure if mods like Metal Auger and Shred actually benefit in taking enemies down quicker because I have not maxed them.
     
    I was also thinking of having a combo element for each faction then replace Hammer Shot or Heavy Caliber and maybe even Split Chamber with Wildfire to add that extra Fire damage and 25 extra rounds.
     
    As far from damage wise, I can see that ELEMENTS do indeed take a huge bonus damage to enemies and you can't just have raw damage. That is why I was thinking of taking out Heavy Caliber and Hammer Shot.
     
    Advice and tips?
     
    P.S. Thoughts on maxing Heavy Caliber or 2-4 away from max if I were to use it.
