The only thing I personally care about is transferring the "rare" resources from a Warframe to its Primed variant. I'm talking specifically about Umbral and Aura Forma. I can earn or buy more Catalysts and Reactors, I can reapply more regular Forma, but I simply DO NOT HAVE another two Umbral Forma for if/when Inaros Prime comes out.

That is actually a good point. I guess the Forma that would be copied over, could be selectable by the user and thus you could copy the Umbral or Aura.

Or it could mean that not everyone shares your preoccupation with "waste" in something they're playing for fun.

Even with games I play for fun, I like to do meaningful and thought out choices. I would like to play Warframe for fun, but more I understand it, more unfun it becomes.Warframe even tickles by brain annoyingly, as I just need to collect all items in the game and get all the nightwave challenges done. It's annoying.

Any case, doing things for a fun, is not a good counter argument for the fact that a lot of items have pure upgrades (no negatives) and would be always better use for you inventory space. If inventory would be free, then it would be a bit less of a problem.

Except not everything has an upgrade, or you just have no access to getting it. Like any frame is gonna take at least 3 years before it''s prime variant comes out. Or the Prime variant is vaulted and you have to work with what you get.

That is true. For a new player, upgrading a brand new frame is a safe bet. Also Infested weapons, as long as they are any good. Vaulted Primes are not a problem, as they can be bought from other players.

Though, I don't personally like vaulting as it's a way to manipulate the market. I personally prefer a free market (e.i. no virtual restrictions on availability or demand).

OP I doubt this would ever happen just because DE uses weapon variants as a content baiting technique. Some even time gated to make players go out of their way and play when they don't want to in order to get that weapon variant.

They most likely won't ever due this as the benefits are not direct. Only reason it would be beneficial for them is, that it would change peoples behaviour to consume more platinum. That of course presume new players learn about the items and how they differ and understand that there is direct upgrades.

Prime frames and weapons are not overwhelmingly more powerful than the base items. You would only care about it if you were min/maxing the hell out of your equipment.

they are not, but they are also just direct upgrades. If you have a prime frame and a base frame, then you wouldn't ever choose the base frame to any mission (presuming same level of upgrades). Thus, there is no choice involved between them, you will just pick the better. This is true for most of the items in the game, with Opticor being the best counter example I know.

Sadly, this same reason makes 90% of the items in the game worse than some other item for the same purpose. Thus, making the item selection relatively boring.

Goal here was to make using the temporary items feel less wrong, as you spending resources for them wouldn't feel so bad. 90% of my Formas go to crafting weapons that I level to 30 and sell as those weapons cost too much inventory space to keep for fun.

I could see DE doing this with a special item that cost a hefty amount of plat (80p or more), the merging process have a time gate and you can't use the frames during the process.

That would mean you would merge more than just the Orokin Catalyst and maximum of one Forma. I prefer only a single ´Forma, so this would not break how Formas work, where you need to level the item as many times. Thus, it's relatively simple to implement single Forma.

But why would DE do that ? I mean... At the end of the day they make money from people using reactors/catalysts/formas

They do, but the amount they lose from this, shouldn't be a lot. Though, that might mean that I over estimate the intelligence of an average player.

If they would do this, it might even result a higer consumption of platinum by the newer players, as they would be allowed to upgrade the base variants in the early game, compared to that they will wait until they have prime variant and most likely would have some reactors at that poitn.

  8. TL;DR: add feature to use an upgraded item to upgrade a different variant of the same type (e.g. consume upgraded nyx to upgrade nyx prime)

Currently, there is no reasons to spend Orokin Reactors/Catalysts or Formas to a base variant of a frame or a weapon. It's always better idea to farm or buy the prime or the faction variant. Only exceptions are new frames and weapons, which won't have better variants for a while. And infected weapons, which do not get prime variants, at least for now.

I'm sure that every new player goes and buys Orokin Reactor to their first frame to double the low capacity, without knowing that it is the worst investment ever. Furthermore, it would be so cool to play with Ivara, but everyone needs to wait for Ivara prime, as it would be the worst mistake to spend a Reactor into the frame so close to the expected prime release.

What if you could use the upgraded base variant as an Orokin Reactor for the prime variant? Or better yet, what if you could use any other upgraded variant of a frame or a weapon as an Orokin Reactor or a Catalyst for another variant. Thus, you could consume a syndicate variant to upgrade a prime weapon. Or if you notice that Opticor Vandal works differently than the base Opticor, you could consume the Vandal to upgrade the base variant.

So, how would it work? When the player selects "Upgrade", the game would show the item selection interface with all other variants of the item the player owns and has upgraded with a reactor or a catalyst. In addition, there would be an icon for Orokin Reactors and Catalysts the player owns (like with the Forma interface). As a cherry on top, there could be a button to buy it directly with platinum.

Personally I would go so far, that you could use the reactor and a single Forma from the original item, presuming it has a reactor and at least a single Forma. To move a Forma over, the target item would have to be on level 30 as usual. In addition, this upgrade would use the "polarize" button. This would require the player to level the frame or the weapon to level 30 before upgrading it.

Sadly, all of this would require UI to explain it to the player. Though, as this isn't so mandatory and benefits the player only after they do have an upgraded variant and a new variant, we can probably presume the player can find it out from the wiki or from the UI when they are upgrading a second variant.

I don't see this feature as a problem, because players should not be spending reactors/catalysts to base variants currently, thus this change shouldn't lower the current demand of reactors. Furthermore, this is limited to the same item type. Using any item to any other item would by way too powerful and would really effect the demand for reactors and catalysts.

On the other hand, I would see this as a way to revive usage of the base variants. More people would feel accepted to upgrade the base frames and use them before they get access to the prime variant. I would even consider some non-prime weapons to exists in my arsenal, if it would be acceptable to upgrade them.

I created a post to /r/Warframe too, so feel free to comment there, if you prefer.

  9. Hi,

I feel like these destructive actions should have a confirmation dialog as they are mapped to a controller buttons. Color randomization is fine, as you need to navigate to the button before you can press it (btw. history for that would be amazing).

In case of remove all modules, I typically go over few mods and press Y to remove them one by one. If for some reason, my cursor is not moved on top of the next module before I press Y, all of my mods are removed. A warning here shouldn't effect default play much, but would help with accidents.

On a frame styling view, one can press Y to randomize the frame style. This feature is cool and all, but it's in the same action as upgrade frame. For example, if you are going back to the root by pressing B and then to upgrade the frame with Y, you might hit Y one view too early and you end up clearing all the styles you have been doing. A warning dialog would fix this, but it would make it hard to rotate over multiple iterations. Thus, I would remove the controller shortcut from the action. Maybe by moving it to the style menu on the left, close to randomize colors.

Thanks for all the devs for cool work and for allowing use to use controllers on windows. The game is awesome with Steam Controller, even though there are some slight problems with the UI time to time.

P.s. Syandana is not randomized with the randomize action (there is another post about that).

  10. Hi,

So the right bumper button is mapped to in-game action "next menu". This works for all the menus, but not for the gear wheel. For a workaround, one can add long press activator to send right mouse click. This keeps menus working (next menu), but when user does a long press, then also right mouse is send and thus emotes wheel is shown.

Thanks for the devs for everything and cool if you have time to check this. After all, gear and emotes wheels seem to be relative new components.

  11. Hi,

Yo accept friend requests, you need to open the persons menu in friend list view. The menu can be opened on controller mode sending A button. Default Steam Controller configuration has in-game action "Select" in it's place. This select action works for chat (can open the context menu and e.g. invite to party). but not for the friend list view. I presume that view is going for redesign soon as it seems to be one of the last old style views.

Any case, thanks for all the work you do for the game and cool if you get to fix this small problem some day. Until then, me anyone else can replace Select with A.

  12. It would be really good, if DE could allow simultaneous mouse and controller input.

First, I could play around menus using mouse, instead of controller when I have both in front of me. If for example, batteries go out in the controller, I can't click "Exit game" using mouse.

Second, it isn't possible to create usable steam controller layout as I can't turn right touchpad to mouse input in menus. It would be actually usable to navigate menus if the mouse would work.

That said, I do accept that keys and buttons in menu action labels show controller or keyboard icons.

    Thank guys!
