Yeah, it needs that tankiness and damage to balance out how ugly it is. And the scales don't tip well either, this is MR fodder at best.

I agree kubrows need work, Chesa is completely broken but I doubt any fix will put it anywhere near vacuum. At least Huras beats Shade.

Now then, wild Kavats as pets when?! No thanks to the grineer one.

Steve already confirmed via Twitter that they're doing some touch-ups on the model, no idea about its stats though.

''Universal Vacuum'' was abandoned after giving it to all Sentinels. I doubt they'll fix Chesa's Fetch or adapt it for all Kubrows (especially because Fetch isn't useful to begin with, and because their A.I. is too clunky to reliably catch items like Carrier does. Shame tbh).

Nothing was said about Kubrows though.. I guess they're going to be forgotten like Oberon was. They'll just be an inferior option to Sentinels, Kavats and Helminth Chargers, for people who don't know exactly what they want to use. This is the exact opposite of ''adding choice'', unfortunately.

So you mention "Draining the cyst" on the incubator, is that just an option that pops up as you're incubating a kubrow egg?

As a note to the topic at hand.. I'm still gonna use kubrow's because I like dogs so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You need to have your cyst fully grown (must have a worm sticking out with a glowing end) and a Kubrow Egg. Head over to the Incubator, select Incubate Kubrow, and the option should appear bellow the Imprint slots. Note that it is quite buggy, as DE seems to have rushed the feature so it'd be released before Christmas.

Don't know what the full stats are (like rate of attack and charger abilities) but that damage spread is negligible in any content where it would actually matter. Like you said yourself they are the mid ground of utility and damage, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Besides, fashionframe might be more sided with Kubrows since chargers aren't that impressive (especially with the grineer face mask, if it stays), and at the end of the day, that's all that really matters.

Yes, the difference in stats is quite negligible since they're based on our Warframes, I'm just a bit disappointed that Kubrows got ignored once more. Higher stats means they're willing to create a new type of Pet instead of fixing older ones, including forgetting mentioned buffs and fixes. All I'm saying is that Kavats were already better than Kubrows in utillity, and now Helminth Chargers are better in tankiness and damage, which I can't totally agree if they're supposed to add 'choice'. The 'middle ground' isn't as good or useful as 'better specialization'.

The model seems temporary (it's slightly bugged?), so no worries! We should get a real one in January, I hope.

Well, this is Warframe, everything must be an upgrade.

Nearly any reskin from Syndicates, Baro or otherwise.

    Prime.

    Primed Mods

    Rivens

    etc...

I am quite aware of that and I do support it to some degree, since it shows there's a progressive evolution for some weapons and mods (not every mod has to be powerful, not every mod has to be strong as hell). However, Kavats are different from Kubrows since they bring utillity instead of tankiness and damage, they're a sort of ''sidegrade''. It adds options and choice to the game (and even then, Kavats' utility is generally preferred to Kubrows' everything). Helminth Chargers are more of a direct upgrade, taking away almost any reason we could have to use Kubrows.

  4. Today marks a full week after Nidus was released, which means players who got infected on the 1st day have their cysts fully grown. You can now create a Helminth Charger by draining the cyst on your Kubrow Incubator. The model appears to be the same one used by normal infested chargers and by Phorid, which means it only serves as a placeholder at the moment (this is evidenced by the lack of collar and mismatched Kubrow armors).

However, once again DE graced us with a direct upgrade to Kubrows instead of a sidegrade. And no, unfortunately it's not a small one. Let's grab a Sunika Kubrow, arguably the damage breed, and let's compare it to a Helminth Charger:

Sunika Kubrow, the ''superior war animal bred for ferocity and aggression'' companion, has:

    Health: 330 at rank 30

    Shield: 270 at rank 30

    Armor: 50

    Slash dmg: 120.0

    Crit chance: 10.0%

    Crit dmg: 1.6x

    Status: 5.0%

Helminth Charger, the ''infested pet bred from the cyst'' companion, has

    Health: 590 at rank 30

    Shield: 265 at rank 30

    Armor: 150

    Slash dmg: 304.0

    Toxin dmg: 45.6

    Crit chance: 10.0%

    Crit dmg: 3.0x

    Status: 5.0%

So yeah, Helminth Charger is better in almost every stat compared to Sunika and to most Kubrows. Granted, Helminth Chargers seem to be fully damage oriented, while Kubrows have different breeds for different purposes (Raksa shields, Chesa fetches, Huras stealths, Sahasa digs, Sunika hunts). But at the same time, aren't Kubrows supposed to be the high damage option among companions? Isn't this the reason why they don't bring as much utility as Sentinels do? The reason why they don't have Vacuum or other neat mods like Guardian? Because at the moment, Kavats' utility seems like the superior option to Kubrows' utillity, and now they got surpassed by damage and tankiness by another Companion pet: Helminth Chargers. Not only that, their A.I. still seems to be the same, which is a funky/glitchy mess.

At the end of the day, the three companion types (Kubrow-Kavat-Helminth) use mods that are based on our stats, and thus their stat growth isn't as dependent on level as it is on the Warframes we have equipped. However, the stat differences are quite noticeable, making the Kavasa Prime Collar seem worthless, and Kubrows even more inferior. Remember how we were supposed to get some Kubrow changes and buffs to make them more useful? Like that ''pack leader'' attack that Sheldon and Steve shared? We never got any of those. Instead, we got a direct upgrade.

TL;DR Kubrows are inferior to Sentinels and Kavats in utillity, and inferior to Helminth Chargers in damage and tankiness. Nobody wants the ''middle point'' (Kubrows) between damage and utillity when they can't do neither as useful or sustainable in combat, especially when Helminth Chargers aren't difficult to get. Kubrows are, at the moment, the Oberon of Pets.

EDIT: Cleared up the post a bit so it's simpler to understand.

  5. To clear up some things:

-Helminth is the entity present inside the Medical Bay (the infested room), although there is no confirmation he's one of the organisms swimming in the aquarium. Players just assume Helminth is the big fish until proven otherwise, nobody knows who he is or what kind of powers he has. Some of us theorize he might be the hive mind of the infested strain we use on our Warframes, since Ordis states he's ''domesticated''. Helminth says he is weak and that his purpose is to ''serve us'', but nobody knows if he's referring to Nidus or the Operator.

-Nidus can only start spreading the Helminth Virus after being stabbed by the infested chair and waiting 24hrs (or a Server Reset). After those 24hrs have passed, a cyst will appear on your neck, indicating you're fully infected and can start spreading it to other players. The same applies for infected Warframes. Also, the infection only spreads to the current Warframe you're using, not to your whole Arsenal.

-Helminth's cyst will grow for 7 days after the Warframe is infected. Afterwards it should have fully developed itself, taking up a considerate amount of space on your Warframe's neck. The cyst will be removable (at some point) and will have a special function with Kubrow Eggs (or Kubrows in general, I guess). The Glast Gambit was released December 22th, which means tomorrow (December 29th) will mark a full week after Nidus hit the servers. If we're lucky, an update will be released where we'll be able to remove the cyst, and use it. Try following Mogamu/QuietteShy/TacticalPotato, one of them is bound to showcase what it does.

-Kavats are immune to the Infestation, and so are Kubrows. This is why both can be taken on infested missions and somehow avoid being infested. However Kavats specifically develop themselves by ingesting infestation, whereas Kubrows do not. This might explain why the cyst can be applied to Kubrows before they are born, but not to Kavats, as they would probably be immune the cyst.

-Helmith will comment on your Alignment if you enter his room with the Operator (just place Nidus in front of the door so it stays open, and then use Transference). He will also show distaste and fear after realizing the Operator is no longer asleep, which means he knows who we are and what we're capable of (hence he calls us ''void demon'').

-Many rumours, including the Wikia, state that your Alignment can start rotating towards Moon after being stabbed, or after infecting a great number of players. Wether this is true or not is unknown, but it seems widely believed as so.

-The only way to stop infecting other players is by switching out the infected Warframe into your Arsenal and leaving it there. To avoid getting your other Warframes infected, the only solution is to use Solo Mode and avoid Dojos/Relays.

-The Saviour Missions (or ''Saviour System'') that were hinted in some of the Devstreams might be introduced on the opposite door of the infested room (the right door, which holds no use at the moment). It might serve as a counter-effect to Helminth, helping you rotate your Alignment towards Sun, somehow.

EDIT: Added some new info and other theories.

A little off topic, but seeing as Helminth was present in our orbiter since before The Second Dream, and based on what little we know about how the infestation and technocyte relate to each other, is it possible that Helminth was able to exert some small control over our wounded warframe and defeat Hunhow and the Stalker when War was broken?

If this is the case, I would still remain of the opinion that we don't owe Helminth our lives because this would have been an attempt by Helminth to save himself by saving the warframe, and we just happened to benefit from it because he does not know that we are the ones who control the warframes.

In any case, I'm entertaining the hypothesis that it was Helminth that managed to control or at least influence our warframe's apparently autonomous actions in The Second Dream finale.

Was he? I don't remember having infested growth near the left door at the time, so I'm not sure he'd be strong enough to remotely control a Warframe. Plus it means he'd seen the Operator, so he shouldn't be surprised that we were awake when we entered the Medical Bay (not trying to sound like an A******! Just legit theoryzing)

My personal view on it is that we somehow 'humanize' the Warframes a bit, they seem to display some sort of alter ego (each has their own set of animations) and maybe we extrapolate those 'egos' whenever we're using Transferance. Eh, who knows, but it's exciting to find out.

About Helminth, he seems to be a Moon Alignment character (not necessarily 'evil', just 'dark') since our Alignment does, in fact, slowly change to Moon when we infect a great number of players. I don't think he's trustworthy at all.

  7. The problem with Warframe has alwas been Quantity over Quality.

The playerbase spikes when quests and special events are released, but otherwise will drop during 'dead weeks'. The Devs end up implementing a lot of quests and new systems that feel incomplete or grindy since it revives the playerbase again. Problem is, these systems don't add any real depth to the game (remember Focus? Derelicts? Kubrows (now replaced by Kavats)? Solar Rails? Dojos? Raids?). Afterwards the playerbase dies a bit (again) and the systems introduced are left behind. The ''next shiny thing'' is what Warframe is all about, which is also its core problem.

On the other hand, great Quests (like SD and TWW) add great story and depth to the world around us, but the time between each one is gigantic (wasn't 2016 supposed to be the year of cinematic quests? We got one). I'd understand if TWW had been amazing, but it wasn't worth all that wait (quote QuietteShy/TP).

The Nidus grind resembles Mesa's when Mutalist Alad V came out. Inaros' and Titania's quests were really well done and represented a good balance between grind and reward, but now came Nidus and it feels like we went back in time.

  8. Ah so it's true, it does change our Alignment. (https://forums.warframe.com/topic/740237-alignment-and-infested-door-spoilers/)

Besides annoying, this mechanic shows that Helminth is a Moon alignment character, or in other words, a ''dark'' character (not necessarily evil). The only way to avoid infection is by not  getting stabbed by the chair (just don't sit on it, you can still open the door and explore with Nidus) and staying on Solo Mode. Alternatively, in case you get infected, switch your Warframe so you don't infect anyone else. Avoid Dojos and Relays (oh boy, imagine when Baro shows up? Mass infection).

This all looks like an experiment on DE's part, to know how long it would take to infect a certain % of players in the game. Whatever it is, it won't be changed any time soon until after the holidays. Maybe in 7 days we'll know.

  9. Story missions (related to the Tenno's true origins and past) shouldn't really be tied with Syndicates. I'd much prefer the Syndicates being a side-quest thing that people can explore if they want more side content or info on smaller things. Granted, The Glast Gambit kinda breaks the norm since it awards the Nidus BP, which is required in creating Nidus to open the Infested Door. Perhaps this can be excused with Nidus being buyable from the Market?

About Arbiters not getting any love, I know where you're coming from, but you have to give them time. New Loka and Perrin Sequence are two of the least liked Syndicates in the game (they sport the lowest % of players allied with them), and Red Veil wasn't even a true Syndicate when the event came out. So it makes sense they expanded on them first (plus I like how Amaryn changes her doctrine and Glast protects the innocent in his own way).

The Arbiters will have their moment to shine, and it will undoubtedly be related to the Tenno Ways, so don't worry, DE walks baby steps :)

Yep, I noticed this bug, I picked the neutral "let her decide" which shown a neutral choice, but when selected it changed to the moon and has now negatively affected my "karma" indicator.

Yeah, I think they ran a script to fix it. But regarding the infection, have you noticed anything lately?

This could also be their precursor to bringing the Umbra frames to pc.

How come? Any idea how they'd use Helminth for this?

  11. 5 minutes ago, Zeyez said:

there's one thing that maded my alignment go toward the dark an bit: Allow Neewa choose her destiny, ironically

and i think this was an bug, since the options was telling me that was the neutral path and the message that Neewa gave to me explain that

but about using Helminth to infect the others... i still have no idea, my Nidus will be completed in 2 days, but i don't want to infect the others unnecessarily

Yes, that option should be the NEUTRAL one, not the MOON one. It was corrected as follows:

    Sun: Cure Neewa

Neutral: Let her decide her fate

    Moon: Send her home

About infecting others: it happens right as you get close to someone while using Nidus. I don't know if only Nidus can infect Warframes, or if infected Warframes can also infect. Kubrows are also infected, but it doesn't seem to change anything. Probably a bug from DE, since Nidus can also ''infect'' the Operator, but it also does nothing.

The only way to not infect someone else is getting stabbed with Nidus and stop using him, or avoiding the room altogether.

  12. Just something I want to ask/discuss with some of you. First, some background music: ''Welcome to the hive''

Second, let me just say that I don't think Helminth is a good thing, as in, I don't think he is trustworthy. This is mostly because he treats Nidus with respect (as it's his master), but the Operator with fear (showing distaste in knowing the Operator woke up). This clear distinction between the Warframe and the Operator is a big red sign, it gives me the feeling Helminth would ditch us if he had the opporutnity, as long as Nidus would still be its master. Whatever functions Helminth may bring or not into the game remain unknown, but this whole ''get yourself infected and infect others'' is somewhat concerning. Why would he want to infect other Warframes? Other characters?

I mean, besides the obvious ''not everyone has Nidus yet and it gives newer players a chance to grow their own cyst'', since we'll

    Spoiler

be able to remove it and use the cyst on a poor Kubrow to create a Helminth Charger. Jesus Christ, DE.

All of this is reminiscent of an epidemic. Helminth wants to spread itself unto other living beings, so he himself can grow (and possibly adapt). This is what I want to ask: has anyone noticed any change in their alignment ever since they came into contact with the Infested Room? Not the stabbing per se, since we had no idea what effects it would have, but the act of infecting others. Does our alignment slowly turn to  Moon? If so, how many players do we need to infect until it starts having an effect?

Stay safe out there Tenno, and remember, always use protection (which is also called ''SOLO MODE'') :D

EDIT: Clarified post, should be easier to understand.

  13. Bump. Happened the same with me just now, are we free to use them anyways? I can see why this could be problematic, but they are going to decay anyways, it just feels like a waste. Can we get a Dev Support over here?

  14. I really hope It's related to our Warframes or Operators, it wouldn't make sense for Kavats to get a whole room just to feed themselves on infested, while Kubrows only get a small Incubator lying around. Plus it'd be more interesting if it was something related to our uses of Technocyte in Warframe exoskeletons, or maybe It's some kind of infested tissue that helps the tree channel void energy to the Operator (since It's connected by the branches from the Somatic Link room).

Can the Lotus (DEReb) give us a hint about it?

  15. I don't run carrier because i need to pick up mods. With the exception of pvp mods, I have them all already. I run carrier because i have access to more energy which equates to a stronger frame whether that is spamming cc, staying invisible longer, getting damage boost on melee, or spamming damage powers.

You can deny the fact it is the most useful companion in the game but that does not make it a true statement. It is the best because of the way the game is setup.

If DE changes the way orbs are distributed, then perhaps it may not be the best. Until then, I'll use all my advantages within the boundaries of the game. You can white knight it all you want and put all the restrictions on yourself you want, but truth is, I'll be the guy reviving you because I have no such artificial restrictions I place on myself.

Also like how you ignore the awesome feedback I gave that would make kubrows on oar with sentinals. I want kubrows to be an alternate, they just are not.

The sad truth is that it is because of guys like you. You are happy with the mediocre performance and awed by their cool appearance (the do look better than sentinals, I'll concede to that). Instead of telling DE, this is horrible, please fix all these glaring issues, you happily succumb to mediocrity and blame the carrier.

The problem is not the carrier, it is the kubrows.

This, so much this. Why do people still defend Kubrows is beyond me.

Sure, I mean, I love them. I'm the first one to admit, I've bought a lot of Kubrow stuff, each time something came out I'd buy it, even if I never ended up using it, just so I could have a collection of acessories for my little doggies. But, in reality, they'll never be really worth it.

I mean, seriously, it does not take any work to realise:

-They ask for higher resource costs

    -Need constant maintenance

    -Are random

-Their mods have higher ranks and are more expensive to level

    -They can't deal elemental damage

-The incubator upgrade feels more like a bandaid than an actual upgrade

-You literally need to Forma them about 7-8 times to fit everything, whereas Sentinels go for 4-6

-Some of them are borderline bad when compared to their Sentinel counterparts (Chesa is supposed to compare to Carrier? Sure, it can disarm enemies, but so can I and 80% of the playerbase with Lokis)

-Their AI is wonky, unresponsive, sometimes it's more dentrimental for combat than useful

You do all of this, and for what? For a walking tank that ''never dies'' and deals some damage? I'm sorry, the ones who are supposed to deal damage are us, the Warframes, our companions are there to aid us. Sentinels can provide utillity, shoot from afar and do not have bad AIs. I'd have to go down for my Sentinel to die in most cases, and by the time that happens, I probably won't need it because everything is high level enough to kill me quickly. They simply do not live up to these costs and Sentinel comparisons.

I really like Kubrows, but I can't lie and say I feel they're useful when I take one with me. Raksa and Huras are probably the only good ones, everything else is easily ignored with Health/Energy/Ammo restores, better Sentinel counterparts, or just straight up damage focus. If you handed me their resource costs, and said ''These will give you a mediocre companion that can't do half the stuff its supposed to, while still having to keep its maintenence'' I'd frown and reject. What makes them appealing is their dog-like shape and tankiness, but none of those provide actual improvements to the battlefield.
