Maybe i founded a workaround. I was having the same problem. I tried to switch language, i set it to english, and now it works!
It works for me now indeed!

Since the last hotfix, I can't play the game anymore. The launcher just closes itself without any warnings or anything. I tried many times to verify the game cache through Steam and i've already reinstalled the game 3 times and yet I have this problem. I use Windows 8.1 64 bit by the way.
