Game locks up regularly (and Windows key fixes it)

So starting a couple of weeks ago, immediately after a game update, my game has been locking up regularly. The screen just freezes.

HOWEVER, I've found that pressing the Windows key on my keyboard fixes it. It essentially causes my desktop mouse cursor to show up, and when I click on the screen, Warframe starts running normally again (until it freezes again, that is).

So apparently the game itself isn't freezing so much as my computer is dropping/switching priority on its own? What is causing this and how do I stop it?
