Throwing Halikar at the Wolf steals his hammer

As the title says, I threw Halikar at the Wolf of Saturn, and it stole his hammer and gave it to me. I assume this is a bug as he fairly quickly pulled out another one, and I couldn't switch away from it.

Including a screenshot of me holding the hammer with the "Any" weapon equipped.

When attacking with the hammer, I didn't swing it like a normal weapon but instead shook it around in front of me 1-6 times before throwing it in a similar fashion to what the Wolf does.
