How to start man of few word quest, getting frozen in codex?

So I went to see Darvo and got the man of few word quest added to my codex, when i go to my star chart and the upper right hand icon i usually click on to start quest missions, it takes me to the codex (or I can go to the codex as normal).  Then I get stuck in the codex.  I can't back out, I can't select the quest, I can click on the menu icons in the upper right and view my recent players and weapons equipped, but I can't leave the codex.  

I also cannot toggle between my open quests (waverider and man of few words). Like before i activated man of few words, i could switch between what quests i was working on from waverider and back and forth to the other quests, now its just stuck. 

I have to shut the software off and restart the game, But i can't start the quest.  is this a bug?  How do I complete this quest? Its going to ruin the game If I can't keep advancing on quests.
