Azure_Kytia
There is a vastly different amount of content being rendered on-screen and behind the scenes when comparing the main menu to the gameplay. For example, all the Main menu spawns is the skybox, UI and the models for the planets. In-Game, Each required level Tile, it's textures and collision are loaded into memory. The Combat UI is loaded into memory. The Skybox is rendering behind the scenes just in case there are any empty pixels being rendered within the constraints of the Tileset. Each enemy type is loaded into memory, available to spawn when required. There are up to 50(vague guesstimate) relatively high-poly instances of Enemies with AI trees at any one time. There are rendering effects such as sparks and explosions, which, whilst taking up GPU memory still impact on CPU time in their own minor ways. In short, there's a lot more going on behind the scenes in-game than there is in the Main Menu. Which may be why you see these vast difference in framerate. I know the feeling, though. I get 60 steady on the Main Menu, and it drops anywhere from 25-30 fps in-game. That being said, The UI is located within a .swf flash file, so it probably has a pretty minimal impact on the CPU anyway.
