It's probably related to insta-killing bosses that way. That's my guess anyway; it's a temporary fix for a problem to be addressed later.

No, i think its just a glitch. Today i've had the same problem too of enemies not dying and just sort of "teleporting" back to their original spot or just suddenly appear on a different location

If you instakill a boss this way, you'd lose all of the loot, so there wouldn't be a good reason to do it.

Besides, it's probably meant to prevent insta-kill enemies/bosses.

Ditto. I know mods that fall in pits teleport to the surrounding area.

I was having a problem where the vent rooms started acting like this. My team and I could not enter any of the rooms, we just fell for eternity till we hit an edge. I'm guessing its not to do with boss but with AI glitches. I have seen entire swarms of the Crawlers running off into darkness.
