vergol
The infestation outbreaks have become commonplace now. The game UI alerts us to their occurrence. But what if we could see them happen in real time? Here's a possibility: --- Imagine you're running Apollodorus survival, laying waste to waves of Grineer troopers. Suddenly you hear a loud, collision-like noise. The ship alarms sound; panicked Grineer voices boom over the loudspeakers. Lights flicker. Power goes out, taking a chunk of gravity with it. Some sort of organic film/mucus begins to envelop the ship, obstructing the starscape normally seen through the ship's windows. Strange growths begin to pierce the outer hull. The rate of air loss increases. The Grineer shift their focus away from you. Most drop what they were doing and run. Others desperately fiddle with control panels to activate lockdowns and preserve what ship functions they can. The Lotus chimes in and informs you that the vessel has encountered a free-floating Infestation mass, an outbreak is imminent, and that you have mere minutes to escape. You swiftly grab any remaining nearby loot and dash for the extraction waypoint. Some panicked Grineer clog the doorway ahead of you; your bullets persuade them to clear the way. Human screams echo around you, followed by high-pitched gurgling. The footsteps of the Grineer behind you take on a more rapid, gallop-like beat. Out of the corner of your eye you glimpse a group of deformed, multi-limbed creatures gaining on you. Stamina nearly expended, you turn and unleash a series of bursts from your Supra laser cannon. The effect is less than stellar, and the word 'Ignis' briefly enters your mind. Most of the creatures drop dead, giving you just enough time to reach the extraction room. The last of the air escapes into space with the undocking Tenno pods, taking a few Infested with it. You made it. --- I think everything mentioned above is possible to implement. Lore-wise, it seems to fit with current observed faction norms. Mechanic-wise, it wouldn't be very different from the Lotus altering your objective mid-mission. The rest is just mesh/lighting tricks and AI behavior. Something similar can be done for Grineer vs Corpus invasions. The whole thing would add more immersion to the game. Factions would feel more interesting and dynamic. Invasions will no longer just be white dots turning green or red on the map; you would witness them altering your surroundings in real time. And finally, it would break the repetitive nature of most mission runs, a kind of curve-ball to spice things up, like the Stalker. This won't be a very frequent experience. For the above to occur, your mission node would have to be invaded WHILE you're running it, the odds of which aren't that great, but sufficient to break the routine once in a while. Seems like something worth considering/implementing. Feedback welcome. Edited January 8, 2014 by vergol
manub
I like the idea but what if the mission is a boss fight? Does phoris crash into the mission? ( I imagine it & to fight with let s say captain Vor or sargas ruk on your side, that would be awesome)

In the event that such a thing should happen during a mission, Lotus' instructions would no doubt be: "This ship has been infested. You know the drill. Leave nothing alive." Tenno exterminate infested. They don't run away from them.
EDeN153
If Phorid crashed in you'd run, you wouldn't fight. Life support is depleting, y'know.

MrCranky_BR
Nice. Would be cool if the invading infested were a lot higher level than the map threshold... Let's say 20 or 30 levels. Just to catch people off guard and give a sense of danger. Cause let's face it: on the same level, infested are the weakest faction unless you go really high to the point of spawning Ancient gangs. Fomiru
Sounds awesome! I'd love to have some more immersion ingame. I'm a sucker for stuff like this.

( I imagine it & to fight with let s say captain Vor or sargas ruk on your side, that would be awesome) this is cool, though some of their abilities should still hit you cuz you know they hate you still, its just a temporary ceasefire between you farming dem Orokin cells and them trying to kill you but ultimately fail. No thanks, maybe a bit higher than the map threshold, but assuming everyone runs around with high-end gear and mods ends up screwing newbies (at a minimum) since it's not unheard of even for players with 100+ hours to not get a Serration or Hornet Strike. Go ahead and take an unmodded Braton (bonus points for a Mk-1) and a frame that may at best have Vitality and record how well you do in say, Derelict Survival (which spawns infested at around the minimal level you'd suggest).
