Hostage Handgun? Give 'em One Of Yours!

I've always found it a bit odd that anyone would helpfully provide their prisoners with a complimentary handgun (engraved with their initials!) upon checking in to their cells.  Not that the handgun actually works, of course... I guess it's like a comfort blanket or something for them?

 

Anyway, instead of hostages starting with a useless pistol that they clutch desperately to soothe their fevered brows, why not give the players the option of lending one of their firearms to the hostage?  This would, of course, remove said gun from the player's access during the rest of the round, but would then give the team a bit of (perhaps inexpert) extra fire support. :)

Would be nice to have him scale in level with the surrounding npcs too instead of always being level 1. That way he doesn't instantly die when he walks past that level 70 Toxic Ancient.

They should give them paints to paint the guns while in jail. Arts and crafts!

And might want to give the existing pistol they do have a new look, it appears to be a modern day .45 pistol.

I think giving the hostage a working handgun would make them draw unnecessary attention to themselves, and would get them killed ending in a failed mission...
