Moving The Windows Kernel Into Ram

Caution: You should make a backup of your registry and a restore point, just to be sure that if it comes to a problem, you can roll it back.

You can speed up Windows itself by moving the Windows kernel into RAM,because virtual memory on hdd is slower, you can do it by executing this Registry tweak:
it's recommended to have at least 4Gb of ram.

    Open the Registry Editor.
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management key.
Right-click the DisablePagingExecutive item and select Modify.
In the Edit DWORD dialog box, change the value to 1.
    Click OK.
In the same "folder" click on the LargeSystemCache and change the value from 0 to 1.

You must reboot your system for this tweak to take effect.

Should be noted that this is only true on Windows XP and older.  According to Microsoft blog the memory manager not longer works that way in Vista and later.  In fact those registry keys are not even read in later versions of windows and only exist for backward compatibility with older applications.

Gota love 30+ year old tweaks still circulating around the internet.

It's only irrelevant if nobody uses Windows XP.

Therefore, it is relevant.

Did a Control+F search for irrelevant, no results found until your post, hence the "Should be noted.." not the same as irrelevant.  Such things should be denoted when giving expert technical advice.

i have an older cpu (pentium d 3,2x2) and 4gb of ram, and i got a slight more and stable fps, on windows 7 x64, don't say if you didn't try it. got a lot of forums that say that this doesn't work, that doesn't work. you should only say that if you tried it. :)
