Bane was strong, and smart enough to break the back, spiritually and physically. He almost killed Jean Paul Valley on there first encounter, but after that he steadily declined in power, to the point of losing to pretty much every one. Lady Shiva was also one of the most dangerous character in the DCU, who routinely gave Batman a run for his money. Then she got defeated by Robin (Tim Drake) and Speedy (ouch).
