I Still Don't Get What This Song Means

I mean, it sounds pretty amazing and I've been listening to it for nearly a year now, but still don't get what it really means.

My interpretation is that when we are alone, we all think we are Superman and we are destinied to do great things, yet in front of others we hide it because we are afraid of our idea being disregarded, destroyed so we keep it to ourselves.

So, what do you think of this song? If this thing is not your cup of tea, please no hate reply (not that I can't take it, but I want to keep the discussion civil).

And this is not about the quality of the song, it's about the meaning. If you need the lyrics, check spoiler

The night has a thousand eyes
But he moves in only places
Where the eyes can never be

The night tells a thousand lies
And when you wake up in the morning
Were you dreaming, screaming
Tryin to hide your burnin' heart
Before somebody cuts it all away

Sunset superman
Sunset superman
Sunset superman

Somebody start the game
And the dark will just get louder
As it shouts away the light

A shadow without a name
But when he wakes up in the morning
He just won't know was he a hero
Trying to hide his burning heart
Before somebody cuts it all away

Sunset superman
Sunset superman
Sunset superman
Anybody can
Sunset superman

The night has a thousand eyes
But he moves in only places
Where the eyes can never be

The night tells a thousand lies
And when you wake up in the morning
Were you dreaming, screaming
Tryin to hide your broken heart
Before somebody cuts it all away

Sunset superman
Sunset superman
Sunset superman

Sunset superman
Sunset superman
Superman, ooh

Sunset superman
Sunset superman
Sunset superman, ooh

Anybody can
Anybody can
Sunset superman, ooh

Sunset superman
Sunset superman
Sunset superman, ooh

Sunset superman
Sunset superman
Sunset superman

To me it seems like it's a song about coming out of a bad relationship. The night being a metaphor for depression and the theme being stuck on a loop of constantly remembering what happened, not being able to let it go, and the uncertainty of who was at fault and if he was able to change it, or if it was unavoidable. The eyes being memories. My guess is the "sunset superman" part is trying to pick up the courage to try again, and possibly having self esteem pulled away by the memories, making it difficult to move on.

Maybe I'm looking into this too much.
