The Balor Fomorian Event (first added with the EoB event) is basically a global defense mission I. The form of a sabotage (confusing I know, but bear with me).

To start up the event:

Get your Fomorian Disruptor blueprint (inbox is where mine was, but I did this for the first event, may be in the foundry immediately)

Farm Omega Isotopes (these drop on whatever planet the Fomorian is on, and it's a normal resource, which is affected by boosters.

Once you have enough isotopes, build your Disruptor and equip it on your gear slot

Start up the mission called Balor Fomorian (this is an Archwing mission)

First you destroy 2 shield generators on either side of the giant fomorian

Fly inside it and activate your Disruptor, then just shoot the little spinning columns and destroy them, more score multiplier, more points

Shoot the giant middle thing (that had the spinning columns on it)

Leave the area and get 350m away

That concludes my horrible, 2 minute walk through on the event.

Once you get the hang of it, you'll be running them in 2-3 minutes.

Me and mates ran it heaps yesterday, decided to do a experiment, did everything as per normal, activated disruptor, then just ran away, 0 points for the run.  Mission completed.  Did heaps of these and were still getting the rewards at the end of the mission.

Also took me 90 runs to get the reciever  :(

As for weak spots, there are not any, shooting the spinning circles with the yellow node will activate multipliers to your score but will not result in more damage on your screen while you are shooting them.

It's not just one, all of the rotating things are "weak points" and destroying them will do a lot of extra damage to the core.

The nodes I know about, there are 16 and you get a multiplier.  But some say there is a weak point on one of the tubes, on the front sides on the core that can let you cause more damage
