Cannot Use Second Dream Abilities

I chose viazarin, and and have been putting affinity into everything on the screen I'm allowed to rank up or unlock, putting enough affinity into the first ability to rank it up once, unlocked another passive of viazarin, increased the pool, and so on... The option to push L1 when the circle fills up with affinity is shown on my screen, but I can't activate it, I just melee attack like the button normally does in classic control...I tried switching my controller off the classic controls, but L1 is still listed as L1, and still does not work. I have tried holding other buttons at the same time, customizing the controls differently, holding the touch pad in the mislddle, and trying L1....nothing works, what am I doing wrong? My friend didn't understand what was wrong with my game, as he expressed that L1 should definitely activate it? And if so, then how would I not be constantly pressing it while fighting?

You have to hold down your abilities button as well as L1 to activate your focus power. So on my controller I have to hold down R1 and L1.

Make sure you activated the powers also. Done in the focus tree area.

Ok, thanks, I was pretty sure it was something like what DE did when they changed the controls for remote detonated weapons, like Penta and castanas, I just couldn't figure out what it was...thank you

If you use a different layout you may have to bind "power e" to something
